Earlier this month, TVIB’s @tavaf traveled to New York City to attend the Seamen’s Church Institute Silver Bell Awards Dinner and participate in SCI Board Meetings.

The visit provided an opportunity to connect with industry leaders, support SCI’s mission, and collaborate on initiatives that continue to strengthen the maritime industry.

Between meetings and events, Tava also had the opportunity to experience SCI’s history firsthand through a walking tour led by Stefan Dagan Tisdale, Archivist.

The tour explored the sites, stories, and history of SCI between Battery Park and the Brooklyn Bridge, offering a closer look at the streets and maritime culture that helped shape the organization.

Highlights included SCI’s historic headquarters at 1 State Street and 15 State Street, the iconic 25 South Street, 241 Water Street, the Titanic Memorial Lighthouse, the remains of Cuyler’s Alley, and the site of the law office where a young Franklin Roosevelt first learned of SCI’s work, leading to his lifelong service on SCI’s board.

The trip was a meaningful reminder of SCI’s long-standing impact on the maritime community, both past and present.

We’re grateful for TVIB’s continued partnership with SCI.

From committee meetings and the Board of Directors meeting to the IMX Welcome Party, IMX 2026 was a busy and productive week for the TVIB team last week.

We enjoyed connecting with members, industry partners, and colleagues while working the TVIB booth and participating in events throughout the week. We were also proud to see TVIB President Tava Foret lead an educational session alongside an outstanding panel of industry experts, including TVIB’s own Caleb King.

One of the highlights of IMX is the opportunity to strengthen relationships, share ideas, and connect with the people who help move our industry forward every day.

The week concluded with the 40 Under 40 Awards and the presentation of the Mike Rushing Legacy Service Award honoring Joseph M. Tyson’s lasting impact on the industry.

Thank you to Waterways Journal and the entire IMX team for another great event. We appreciate all the hard work that goes into bringing the industry together and are already looking forward to next year.

Honoring a legacy of leadership, service, and dedication to the inland marine industry.

During the Inland Marine Expo 2026, TVIB and The Waterways Journal were proud to present the Mike Rushing Legacy Service Award posthumously to Joseph M. Tyson, recognizing his remarkable contributions and lasting impact on the industry throughout his distinguished career.

The award was accepted on Joe's behalf by Mason Eustis of Canal Barge Company, who reflected on Joe's commitment to operational excellence, mentorship, and the people who make this industry strong.

To further commemorate this recognition, TVIB and The Waterways Journal were honored to present a donation to the Seamen's Church Institute in Joe's memory. The check was presented to the Rev. Mark Nestlehutt of SCI, supporting the organization's ongoing mission to serve and advocate for mariners.

Joe's legacy continues to be felt across the waterways industry through the countless individuals he influenced, mentored, and inspired.

Well… we officially had our first farm jailbreak tonight. 🤦🏼‍♀️🐂

Good thing trash pickup is tomorrow morning or we may not have discovered the situation until sunrise.

The SECOND David stepped outside and headed toward the gate, every cow on this place started sounding the general alarm like they were running an emergency notification system. Apparently pasture gossip travels FAST when somebody’s baby is missing.

So there I was… grabbing a dog leash like I was suddenly qualified to lasso a runaway calf. Spoiler alert: absolutely not. 😂

Meanwhile, momma cow stayed right at the fence talking to her baby the entire time, trying to help him get back where he belonged. And our newest little escape artist — who has now officially revealed himself to be a bull calf — decided just a few days into farm life was the perfect time to test the perimeter security.

Add in some emergency fence repair at dusk and suddenly this evening turned into a full-scale ranch operation… complete with all three donkeys appointing themselves supervisors of the repair crew. Either that or they were hoping the overtime situation would earn them an extra helping of dinner.

Honestly, based on the number of extra buckets of feed handed out tonight to both donkeys and cows, there’s a strong possibility we accidentally paid hush money in exchange for no future jailbreak attempts. 🤣

Everybody is safe, reunited, and back where they belong… but I have a feeling this little bull calf may keep us humble.

Here we grow again… 🌱🐂

We sold off three, and the universe clearly didn’t get the memo—because it turned right around and started restocking. In what feels like record time, we’ve now had three calves hit the ground. Not 100% confirmed yet… but we’re pretty sure this latest one makes another bull 👀

At this point, we’re convinced we don’t run this place… the cows do. We just pay the feed bill and try to keep count.

Yesterday: 91°.
Today: 50°, raining sideways, and absolutely not leaving the house.

This is exactly why I freeze leftovers.
Pulled out chicken & sausage gumbo, fired up the rice cooker, and boom—Friday night handled without changing out of comfy clothes.

Go ahead and keep your plans… I’ve got gumbo and zero regrets.

No place like home.

Signed off of the Zoom and heard the words every business owner wants to hear…
“We’ll send over the signed contract today.”

Cue the dance party.

If you are not stopping to celebrate the wins along the way, you are missing the whole point. This one felt big.

This new client came through a referral from one of my current clients, Towing Vessel Inspection Bureau, which makes it even more meaningful.

After a few conversations around LinkedIn growth and broader marketing strategy, with teams based in Houston, Paducah, and New York City, I’m excited to welcome the Center for Maritime Education to the COMB Collective family.

Grateful for the trust. Grateful for the momentum. And yes, this dance is dedicated to @tavaf ! Thank you for the referral!

Sunday’s plan: full dinner, from-scratch, domestic goddess energy.
Sunday’s reality: two trips to town, farm chores, and me choosing snacks and my pillow like the responsible adult I am. 😌

So we ran it back tonight—and let me tell you, it was worth the wait.

Poblano Chicken Chowder bringing the cozy, and then this jalapeño cornbread showed up and stole the whole show. Listen… you know those “butter swim” biscuits? This recipe needs a rebrand immediately because this cornbread is out here SWIMMING.

We’re talking cubes of cream cheese, fire-roasted jalapeños, fire-roasted corn, and a casual 10 tablespoons of butter like we’re not trying to live past 80. No regrets. No cholesterol screening tomorrow. We ride at dawn.

10/10, would absolutely ignore my responsibilities again for this meal.

Last week’s kitchen lineup did not miss 👏

Started strong with John Folse’s Shrimp Spaghetti… and I’m still thinking about it. So good we stocked up—three more two-person servings in the freezer and one that didn’t last long in the fridge.

Then came Hamburger Steak with Caramelized Onion Gravy from Melissa Martin’s Bayou cookbook. Served it up with homemade mashed potatoes and didn’t leave a bite behind. If you ever find yourself in New Orleans, do yourself a favor and book a table at her restaurant, Mosquito Supper Club.

Somewhere in the mix there was a meatloaf (no evidence, just trust me 😅), and we wrapped it up with a no-fold blanket dumpling situation—only managed a quick snap before it disappeared.

Safe to say… every one of these is going in the “make again” book.

Got home from Arizona and Karen said, “Oh by the way…” like she didn’t casually add a WHOLE calf to the herd 🐄

And y’all… it’s another bull calf. At this rate we’re not running a farm, we’re building a Cajun steakhouse menu. Current contenders for names are: Ribeye or Meatball—accepting votes, but no promises we’ll listen.

Around here, you truly never know what’s waiting for you when you pull in the driveway. Surprise! Hope you weren’t planning a quiet evening.

This little guy wasted zero time linking up with Stewie. The two of them were out in the pasture cutting up, running and bucking like they’ve been best friends since birth—while their mommas were unbothered and focused on supper.

Lagniappe Farm & Ranch: where the welcome home gift might moo at you.
