An incredible amaro tasting last night with @scarlet.iseya from Kanagawa, Japan, hosted by @samesamecarlsbad. Scarlet is Japan's first authentic amaro distillery, and one that grows many of its botanicals in-house.

The standouts for me were the Aperitivo (20 botanicals including orange peel, jasmine, hops, marjoram, and wormwood); their Fernet (made without Gentian, which is reserved only for medicinal purposes in Japan); the seasonal peach amaro; and the orange amaro (each bottle containing the equivalent peels of 1.5 blood oranges, plus verbena and elderflower).

But honestly they were all delicious! They're tough to find in the states, but some retailers carry their flagship bottles, which you can search for on the High Road Spirits website.

2025 year in review: 2025 was definitely a mixed bag:
Over the course of this year I hurt my knee (again), Was reunited with old friends, got another awesome and super mellow roommate- @jaypepito , was introduced to two amazing young college students- @evnhilton and @hhhenry.guy - who not only kept my business running during my recovery- but gave me some hope for the future of humanity. Had a solo art opening @boozebros where I was lucky enough to get @isaiahmitchellsounds to play guitar (we are doing it again March 2026 so stay tuned). And, I learned to prioritize my health (both mental and physical) again - Something I took for granted and seemingly forgot I had to work to keep up on. Which to me means spending more time in nature, eating better (even if slightly), drinking less, working out more…as well as doing as much art as I could. Finding balance was crucial and, in large part, I have to thank @subsendingphysio and @goodvibesphysio physical therapy for reminding me what that means,
Maybe kicking my ass at times. So through all the trials and tribulations (and it’s not lost on me 2025 was full of those for everyone), I have a strong sense of gratitude. Not to our politicians and so called leaders- I hope they suffer - 10 fold - the damage they have willingly and knowingly (don’t be fooled) inflicted on the public over the last year. But I’m eternally grateful for my friends and family - both old and new. To me, 2025 was a reminder of the reality that sometimes what we think happens to us actually happens for us.
Thank you to everyone and everything that kept me focused this year. Let’s hope 2026 is easier on and for us all! When the world gets rough, lean into the people and activities that make it better or something like that ❤️❤️

Had fun hanging with some top-tier folks at @454_tattoo yesterday for their annual art show. Cocktails provided by my cousin @seaman_shawn from @samesamecarlsbad. Amazing BBQ from @thumbsupbaconandbbq. And savage tunes courtesy of @coupedvlle 🤩
