Can I go on ILP with a friend? ✈️🌎

Yes! You can definitely volunteer with your friends while on an ILP semester! We have friends, siblings, cousins, and even married couples volunteer together almost every semester! When you apply, there is a section where you can let us know if you have any friends who you would like to be in your ILP group.

You can also go on an ILP semester on your own! When you volunteer with ILP, you are placed in a group of college-aged volunteers who “truly feel like family” by the end of your trip. Many of our volunteers leave an ILP semester with lifelong friendships, newfound future college roommates, and even become bridesmaids or groomsmen at their weddings:)

Whether you go on an ILP semester on your own or with a friend, you are bound to meet new people and make new friends during your adventure abroad.

what an incredible 3 months i have spent in Peru wow. this has been one of the hardest things ever i’ve done but i’ve learned that in order to grow it’s important to push yourself out of your comfort zone. I’ve learned so much about myself and grown so much and it was all because i had my Savior by my side. As I prepare for my mission Ive learned to see the good in people even when it’s so hard. It’s important to find joy and love in the little things and be grateful for the good. Just as I am so excited to come home to see my family and friends who i miss so much Peru will always have a piece of my heart💟 Thank you @ilpadventure for this adventure I can’t wait to see what I do next🦙🇵🇪😇

For what it’s worth, it was worth the while 🇵🇪🥹🎦❤️

While this was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, it was also one of the best. If I had to wrap it all up in a few sentences, I’d simply say I’m so grateful.

Grateful for my family who supported me in wanting to go.

Grateful for the friends who were excited about this trip when I failed to be excited myself.

Grateful for the opportunity to live abroad.

Grateful for the people God sent me who felt like home when I was so far from home.

Grateful for technology that made home feel not so far away.

And especially grateful for the kids who taught me more patience and love than I had before🤍

Grateful is an understatement 🤍🌄

I don’t think words or pictures can really do this one justice. Hiking in the freezing cold, burning hot, and everything in between for over 50 miles doesn’t sound like the best time, and it was definitely really hard. But this is a week I’ll be thinking about for a LONG time. Between all the miles (and sometimes tears) of this journey were memories, laughs, and moments with some of my new favorite people that I’ll never forget 🤍🏔️

What if I have never taught before?

Great news… no problem! You don’t need any previous teaching experience to volunteer with us. And no one is expecting you to be the best teacher on the first day!

Our program is designed for those who haven’t taught before. While teaching is not difficult, it usually takes most volunteers a few weeks before they get more comfortable teaching! Monday through Friday you will spend about half a day teaching! Although kids can be difficult, they quickly become the best part of your semester making goodbyes the hardest part!
