Big birthday for Brother! And wow! This weekend was so incredibly special. Brother, I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again: the people you choose to surround yourself with are kind, loving, smart, and f-ing funny. It really is a testament to the kind of person you are. I love them and I love you. I know I’m born into it, but you still choose to include me in your life and I am so honored. Thanks for being my best friend. Happy birthday!

Dissolve self. Dissolve ego. Dissolve the sweetness that sticks me.

A calmness and comfort clicked as Alice, Chari, and I sat side-by-side for the first time. Clinking spoons over soft serve a vision unfolded for me. Two months later we created this work.

It symbolizes the process of dissolving a part of oneself, out of necessity, in order for something new to begin to shape. The struggle and uncertainty creates discomfort and often pain.

Dissolving of the Sweetness references the burden of being sweet. A role placed on women to carry from the womb and throughout much of adulthood. A facade shown to ease those that encounter us. Worn too well it becomes a part of the personality, acting as a blanket, providing security even for the performer.

Everyone involved in creating this work had to dissolve a part of themself several times over. And with that has become acquainted with the brave act of allowing a beginning. A tale of two photographers, one leaves a country and a coast to become a jewelry designer with bee keeping plans abuzz, another departs the world of weddings to document their travels and lifestyle all over the globe with their partner. A life built in academia and research shifts away to nurture a son and flower farm. An architect turns to arranging florals sculpting 60 stem bouquets into 600 sf meadows.
