Runner Highlight!!!

Joe Rapone

How many races have you done?
I am a little new to the running scene with getting started in the summer of 2020, but since then I have participated in over 20 races ranging from 5ks to half marathons both road and trail races. Probably one of my favorites races is the Ready, Set, Glow trail race that starts after sunset and has the course marked with glow sticks. It is just a nice fun race put on by Rochester Running Company.

How did you decide for this to be your first full?
I was starting my rehab from an injury last fall and needed some extra motivation to help get me back to where I was running prior to getting hurt. So I decided to sign up for a winter series here in Rochester called FreezeRoo put on by GRTC and used this as a springboard into my training. I was feeling really good so I decided to sign up for a spring half marathon and a full at the end of summer.

Do you train with anyone?
Due to my schedule and my kids' sports schedule I do a lot of my training alone, but I have a good core of people that I train with whenever I can. I love to train with my friends Taylor, Colleen, and Katie who help push me on those long runs and help me refocus my mind when I need it. Group runs with Rochester Running Company are always great and I recently joined the Bergen Elite running team so I am looking forward to getting some work with them over the summer.

How many days a week are you training?
About 6-7 days a week whether or not I have a race coming up. I love to run and it helps keep me happy and motivated to tackle other aspects of my day. When I am not running, I like to do yoga and core work that help keeps me fit and strong for all my running,

Are you an early bird runner or an evening?
I have learned to be an early bird runner over the last few months because that is the only way I can get my runs in. My afternoons are booked with coaching my sports at school or coaching my kids at their sports. So It is a 4:15-30 alarm and hopefully outside on the road before 5. I have grown to enjoy the solitude of the early and dark morning runs.

@priscillarivas really hit us all with the double uno reverse skip card when she dipped to Australia but in the waning global shared hours of her birthday, Sept 2, I present what could have been (twice) the most iconic wedding party of all time in her honor. I can't wait to recreate this SOMEDAY and also celebrate every single birthday and holiday all at once with a rager even bigger than our 21st. happy bday to the queen long may she reign
