I will never forget and neither will anyone alive, where they were 25 years ago. It marked and changed us forever!

We didn’t have social media, we had live TV

I remember, President Bush was at a little school just north of my home town that day, Booker Elementary. We thought our home town was next

I remember, I didn’t have college classes so I just walked into work at the YMCA, where I lifeguarded

I remember, the ymca building was empty and no one came to the gym that day

I remember, calling friends who were in the military, crying

I remember, calling my dad, who was in Miami that day just to make sure he was ok

I remember, the second plane going into the building on Live television

I remember, us coming together as a nation, as a country, not divided but united! People flew their flags proudly!

I’ve had the chance to visit twice, once right after 9/11 with friends before the memorial was built and when buildings were still war torn and again in 2024 with our kids. The pit, eerie and quiet that still remains in that place is unexplainable.

WE WILL NEVER FORGET!

I am praising God for my time in Greece.

For those who don’t know, I spent a little under two months volunteering with different ministries in Athens, Greece. The Lord did so many things there, and I can’t fit everything I learned into one post, but I want to share three things I am thankful for and learned while I was there.

1. I truly think, if you are able, GO.

If that’s for a week, two months, or even years, go.

The Lord gave me a taste of what it’s like to experience what those we send to spread the gospel experience. It is lonely. It is alienating. Community makes all the difference.

If God has not opened doors for you to be able to go, be a sender. To do this well, we need to come alongside those we send, praying for them, funding them, and truly supporting them. God brings so much joy through kingdom work, and a lot of times, that joy comes through your community.

2. The Lord will show up for you and guide you.

I would have never even considered Greece when I was thinking about where I wanted to go. But the Lord led me there and revealed to me the desperate need for the gospel. From meeting the people I did, to the relationships He brought into my life, to the ways He comforted me in my time alone with Him, I saw His guidance over and over again.

I wouldn’t have been able to do ministry well there if He hadn’t led me to the relationships He did or comforted me when I needed Him.

3. Obedience doesn’t always come with obvious results, but it is enough.

I went expecting the Lord to do this big thing through me. And I’m sure He planted seeds through my time there, but I had to learn that obedience doesn’t always produce the results we have in mind. But it is still enough, because He is worthy of it.

Please ask me about the organization that I went with if you are even considering going. It is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I cannot emphasize that enough.

You are loved. You are seen. And you are called to know your Creator and to tell others about His love for them.

You are called.

For the privacy of those I was serving, I can’t share pictures from active ministry, but I hope these give you a small glimpse into my time in Greece.
