The new @girardperregaux Laureato Fifty is much more than just another integrated bracelet sports watch or even another Laureato. Why pay the premium over a regular Laureato? The answer is in the radical upgrades.

The magic happens first on that 18K solid rose gold dial. Rather than standard stamped brass, it uses a sharp Clous de Paris hobnail pattern. The way light hits the micro-pyramids creates a constant play of shadow and warmth, shifting between radiant bronze and soft gold to transform the steel sports aesthetic.

Turn it over, and the exhibition caseback reveals the stunning in-house calibre GP4800. This movement is a masterpiece boasting ten types of hand-applied finishing. The rhodium-plated bridges feature crisp Geneva stripes and sharp, mirror-polished diamond-cut bevels. Underneath the 18k rose gold rotor, it pays homage to GP’s legendary Three Bridges lineage with a solid gold balance bridge finished with immaculate anglage that easily rivals AP or Patek.

On the wrist, this 39mm piece strikes the ultimate sweet spot for daily wear at a slim 9.8mm thickness. Crucially, the integrated bracelet has been completely reworked with more fluid H-links and a brand-new 4mm on-the-fly micro-adjustment system built directly into the clasp.

This is why the Laureato Fifty stands confidently alongside heavyweights like the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Patek Philippe Nautilus. It offers top-tier high horology provenance as a true member of the elite 1970s integrated bracelet era. It even beats its rivals on practicality, combining its breathtaking artistic finish with a high-tech silicon escapement and a rock-solid 150 meters of water resistance. This is a quieter, more intelligent kind of luxury.

I finally had the chance to handle the platinum Bulgari Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC a few weeks ago during Dubai Watch Week, and the experience hasn’t left my mind since. I’ve admired ultra-thin watchmaking for years, but nothing prepared me for seeing—let alone wearing—a mechanical watch that measures just 1.70mm thick. In platinum. It felt like holding a piece of sci-fi engineering rather than a traditional timepiece.

On the wrist, the platinum model has a surprising presence. Its density gives it a quiet gravitas that the titanium version simply can’t match. Yet it still disappears under the cuff, almost impossibly flat. The blue PVD subdials pop against the cool sheen of the metal, adding just enough contrast to remind you this isn’t the monochromatic titanium edition; this is the “flex,” the one reserved for the 20 collectors who want the thinnest COSC-certified chronometer ever made—and want it in a notoriously stubborn precious metal.
Up close, the details become almost absurd in their refinement. The darker time-telling dials feel crisp and legible, and the redesigned ratchet wheel—with its DataMatrix and limited-edition engraving—adds a futuristic touch. Knowing the whole watch is built around the manually wound BVL180, a movement no thicker than 1.5mm, only deepened my appreciation.

Bulgari shaved off that final tenth of a millimetre by reworking the sapphire crystal, a level of obsessive engineering you can actually feel when the watch hugs the wrist like a second skin.

Handling it in Dubai, I realized this isn’t a conversation piece—it’s a technological milestone. The Octo Finissimo Ultra COSC in platinum isn’t just thin. It’s audacious. It’s Bulgari saying, once again, “We can push the boundary further,” and doing it with style.
