⚠️ trigger🚨 ⚠️
So while working away I’ve encountered two situations where two of my mini pals have lost a parent. My 2nd little pal is very current. His first day back after a few days off, was quiet as a little mouse. From being cheeky, mischievous, and 100% cute as a little button to a mini human who was there in class yet miles away. My (cold) heart broke. I wanted to give him the biggest squeeze, and tell him everything will be okay. But due to safeguarding legislations no squeezes are allowed and who am I to determine that things will be ‘okay’ for him? Fast forward a few hours. We chatted and I told him that I missed him while he wasn’t in school! Yet happy that he was back. I could see him listening and taking all the words in and processing them. We chatted a little more, we chatted about everything but his current situation (I was too nervous to bring it up + I didnt know how to) side note - I may be the queen of Pokémon now 💁🏽‍♀️ during our conversation he began to open up, he told me the reasons why he wasn’t in school, his family being sad and how his last few days have been. During this time, I listened and continued listening until he stopped. When he did finish off what he wanted to say, I told him while we both locked eyes (who knew 7 year olds have top tier eye contact) ‘ I’ll be here, I’ll be here to talk to, I’ll listen if you want to talk, if you don’t want to be in class let me know and we can suss it out.’ A little nod of the head was provided. I then asked how he was feeling and my little pal provided a thumbs up with a smile; again I didn’t say much after his response… a few seconds went by where his eyes filled up and his head was burrowed into me. He doesn’t leave my side from the AM - PM and if I’m honest I do drop things to ensure he is sound, whether that makes me a bad person, I honestly don’t care. As long as my pal is somewhat happy.
We don’t get taught this and you have to roll with the waves. What I’ve learnt during the last few weeks is to allow them to see that you have time for them… genuine time! even though you haven’t a clue what to do/ are doing. They’ll feel that energy that you’re letting off ✨
