POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

hey gaymers

I debated not posting this, but here goes. To my fellow artists but Especially to dancer friends whom I love. Stop using AI for your visual arts projects, promotions, posters and social media, and have a crumb of solidarity with other arts mediums who have said, loudly, that this undermines both their forms of art and their livelihoods. I’ve never made a living from my art, or tried to, but it is perhaps worth saying that I can count on one hand the number of people who have not tried to argue for below minimum wage for my time in making a piece they wanted, and this will only increase with AI accessible. Those of you in streetdance spaces especially are around artists all the time - the people making the murals in your studios, running hand lettering and graffiti workshops, designing your t-shirts. You’re now turning around and undermining them, and using a medium that steals from their collective work. At the time I'm making this post there isn't an AI available for these usages that isn't running off of stolen work.

In regards to the fact that without AI you might not have been able to have that cute set of promotional images: many artists in your community would probably put the time into helping you if you expressed need. We’re all aware of the time and love it takes to build our spaces. AI also doesn’t make visual art ‘more accessible’, you’re fully capable of learning how to make your own work. You weren't born knowing how to do a 6 step, these are all acquired skills, and the fact that spending the time to learn them feels daunting is rather the point. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard dance teachers talk about needing to be respected for their time and paid by studios fairly, and now you’re turning around and ignoring a whole field parallel to you.

Thanks for coming to my ted talk regular programming will resume shortly
