After over 15 years of support for artist-led, ensemble, and devised theater work, New England Foundation for the Arts’ @nefa_1976 National Theater Project (NTP) has awarded its Sunset Grants. In an experiment with community grantmaking, NTP asked their family of artists and Advisors to nominate grantees to receive unrestricted $9,000 grants. We're overjoyed to announce $540K awarded in 60 unsolicited and unrestricted $9K gants to a dazzling cohort of theatermakers from across the country!

A coalition of Artists and Advisors lead this grantmaking in celebration of National Theater Project’s 15 year history and elevate peers through a community grantmaking process. Join us in congratulating the ensembles, culture bearers, and partners who exemplify the spirit and goals of NTP while demonstrating excellence as identified by a community of peers, colleagues, and leaders in the field.

Correction: The date at the bottom of each artist slide should be 2026, not 2016. While good art often takes years to produce, the NPN Creation Fund has not found a way to go back in time and fund projects a full decade before they're announced. We regret the error, and our designer has asked us to apologize to everyone who likes numbers or accurate dates.

NPN is proud to announce the 18 artists and collectives of the 2026 Creation Fund, which supports the development of new artistic works that advance racial and cultural justice. Through this year’s Creation Fund, NPN will distribute $319,000 in direct funds plus co-commissioner matches from nearly 50 co-commissioning organizations to seed combined budgets expected to exceed $900,000.
