A decade ago, I was in college studying film and media, rooming with an incredibly talented artist, Colleen Deignan, to whom I'd confided that I had always loved sad little clowns. I told her about how fond I was of a certain clown known as Puddles Pity Party and she drew and gifted me this little sketch. I treasured it more than she probably realized. Ten years later, this little clown sketch still rests in his spot in my (also 10 year old) laptop. Time and wear have faded his original bright colors. I looked down at him today and realized that while so much in my life has rapidly changed and shifted over the years, my devotion to the sad clown archetype remained against my wrist as I'd written every poem included in Carnival Poems of a Sad Clown. The Sad Clown, who takes their sorrow and transmutes it into fascination, awe, and wonder- committing to sharing this ability with any other soul who may pass by with the need to hold their own sorrow differently, playfully, taking it in with curiosity and acceptance.
Thank you Colleen, for being a part of my journey. To see more of her absolutely ethereal art, check out tealcicada.com

Here some amazing booth layouts at Emerald City Comic Con artist Alley 2026. Without the corner booths like KatsuCon, most people went with the standard 'let's just focus on the art for sales' booth, but there's a few that still made their booths a little extra special.

Two tips that I walked away really thinking about is the printed sheet cover that still features the artist's info even though the shop was closed and the angled/curved backdrop use to showcase prints, really keeps the attention within their booth.

Thank you to all these inspiring artists with their fabulous booths.

I know I did a bad and didn't get permission from all the artists for these photos since I ran around a half hour before opening. Gomen 🙏I really tried and would come back 2-3 times looking for you, but I had to run back to open up my own booth at opening.
