Tuesday marked my last appointment in my ICBC claim that had been ongoing since August 2025. A month that initially brought so much stoke for the year ahead was quickly dampened by weeks of acute pain/migraine, months of inability to complete basic ADLs without that pain returning, and a nervous system that was absolutely fried from only knowing that pain and negative consequence. It took a lot of time (think 5 hours of appointments a week, plus the gym, plus working full time), and a lot of tears. Progress was definitely not linear and dealing with the set backs along the way was hard. It was scary. But I can say confidently that though things aren’t perfect (they never will be), I’m feeling more capable than when I went in, more attuned to my muscles, and ready to gradually start pushing more weight again and return to the volume I was doing pre-accident, but better! I cannot say enough good things about the team who has supported me along the way: Kierra of @teallotusmassagetherapy , Cayli and Tena of @valeohealthclinic , Suzie, Courtney, and Emileigh at @okanaganintegrativehealth and of course Katie at @forestwellnesskelowna and coach @braedeen @dopamine_strength who stood by the chaos of this journey and helped me keep training while also healing and collaborating with the guidance from my practitioners. I’m so grateful for the support, what I’ve learned, and the place I’m in today after going through this - physically, but also mentally and emotionally. 💗

Thought I hit 285# and turns out it was actually 290#! bw 185#. Absolute beast mode and I’m stoked! But the reflection goes a lot deeper than just this lift. It’s a retrospective on the last few years, of having days where it hurt to walk and the pain in my hips would keep me up at night. It made me fearful of going on long car rides, scared of intimacy for fear I couldn’t perform (and there have been times where legitimately I couldn’t because the pain has been too much), I had to give up horseback riding - something I loved. And at a certain point, I’d lost hope. I’d been to countless physios, RMTs, and other practitioners and they had ideas but no one could help me move through the pain. I remember deadlifting years ago when I first ever touched barbell and with reasonable form for someone learning and maxing out at 155# I’d be unable to move for days. I thought I’d never be able to do it. But now look at me! I cried after sitting down after this rep yesterday. It was a release of all the grief, and fear and a celebration of how far I’ve come and the support I’ve found. I’ll tell anyone who will listen that Katie at @forestwellnesskelowna saved my life and this is what I mean. She was the first of a team (who I’ll credit here too) who gave me hope that I could get better and participate in life again and do things that bring me joy. I don’t wake up from pain in my sleep, I can walk and go on road trips and deadlift again! The healing journey hasn’t been linear but because of the support of this incredible group of people I’ve found in Kelowna, even through the set backs I haven’t lost hope. Kierra at @teallotusmassagetherapy Kylie of @kylierodger.chinesemedicine And of course @lorabobora who has taken the time to understand how I process movement and to notice what I’m noticing when I have concerns, and also push me when it’s time so I can accomplish things like this! This accomplishment also makes me think forward. Living with neuro degenerative illness I don’t know how long I’ll be able to do these things. None of us do of course but mine has a very precise diagnosis attached to it that I don’t get to forget about. Ctd in comments.
