Kunstnergruppen PEAK? består af: Bellis Bruun-Gazelleh, Carl Dollerup Stenz, Inga Haarløv, Lil Løvetand Rahbek, Naomi Victoria Kollerup Noer, Vera Huvendick Christiansen, Vibeke Wegener Hou-Vangsaae, Viola Saleh-Hoseini Westh, Uma Schmidt Ahmad Foto: @holm_cassandra

𝑬𝒙𝒉𝒊𝒃𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑭𝒐𝒄𝒖𝒔｜𝑱𝒖𝒍𝒆𝒔 𝑭𝒊𝒔𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝑵𝒐𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝑹𝒐𝒕 2024 Scent 𝑺𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝑳𝒊𝒇𝒆 (𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝒅𝒂𝒕𝒆) 2024 Mahogany frame from an estate sale, generative image 52 × 59 cm Featured in 𝑆𝑒𝑡𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑇𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐸𝑥ℎ𝑖𝑏𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 (𝑜𝑢𝑡𝑠𝑖𝑑𝑒-𝑖𝑛) Jules Fisher’s practice revolves around large-scale performances designed to create immersive, multi-sensory experiences that engage diverse perspectives, emotions, and bodies. Their work delves into fundamental human experiences – such as love, loneliness, and grief – approaching these themes with a distinctly ambivalent and queer lens. A central focus of their art is the question of community: how connections are formed, what images and narratives are shared and recognized, and what actions are afforded to different bodies. This exploration is deeply rooted in examining and challenging hierarchies and power structures, often subverting or reversing them within the context of their performances. Over the last couple of years, Jules Fischer has worked on several perfume projects; at Inside-Out Art Museum they will present two works that relate to impermanence. In the staircase between second and third floor, the scent Noble Rot (a sweet yet dark smell) is installed; on the third floor a classic vanitas motif titled 𝑺𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝑳𝒊𝒇𝒆 (𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝒅𝒂𝒕𝒆) is presented. The generative image shows a sensual, awkward, still life of oranges and pistachios in white sheets, partly inspired by their interest in how artists like Marsden Hartley (1877-1943) embed queer symbolic meaning into still life paintings. Both oranges and pistachios have to be peeled and de-shelled to be eaten, displaying the vulnerable nature of intimacy. 𝑺𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝑳𝒊𝒇𝒆 (𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝒅𝒂𝒕𝒆) is framed in a modified frame that the artist bought at an estate sale. 𝑵𝒐𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝑹𝒐𝒕 and 𝑺𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝑳𝒊𝒇𝒆 (𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝒅𝒂𝒕𝒆) are interlinked in the artist‘s quest to find beauty in decay. Jules Fischer (Denmark, 1988) lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark. @team_tender @jacob_fabricius

Exactly one month ago, the curtain fell on the first Toaster Performance Biennale — and we’re still not quite over it. For several weeks, the biennale burst to life across Vesterbro and Østerbro, bringing together 27 performances by artists from Denmark and abroad, including 12 newly commissioned works created specifically for the occasion. Presented across Den Frie and Husets Teater, the biennale offered a snapshot of the performance field as it exists today — across visual art, performing arts, and the many intersections between them. From established practitioners to emerging voices, artists transformed theatres, exhibition spaces and public sites into stages for encounters, experiments and new perspectives. While the biennale won’t return until 2028, Toaster continues year-round. This autumn, the programme continues at Den Frie, and we look forward to sharing what’s next. Before then, we want to thank everyone who made our very first biennale possible. Thank you for helping us launch Denmark’s first international performance biennale with such generosity, curiosity and energy. @esbenweile @kristofferakselbo @edatkinsdiet #linamajdalanie #rabihmroue #bobkil @cam.onfire @kimkimyes @rebamaybury @kariszidore @emilie.gregersen @lilith_artist_duo @juliennedoko @p.d.gile @kleemannjessie @moribundperformance @sarahamming @team_tender @madamdedangelaim @rimini_protokoll @mesayer @colette.sadler @jonas_kjeldgaard_soerensen @kristofferakselbo @kleemannjessie @logenstageart @woundedgutfeeling @mollyhaslund @joseftarrak Supported by @statenskunstfond @augustinusfonden @detobelskefamiliefond and @thoravej29 Photos by @christian_brems

Toaster Performance Biennale presents: Repetition Compulsion by Jules Fischer (DK) Location: Den Frie, Sal 2 + Sal 5 Time: 23/4 at 21.00-22.30 & 24/4 at 21.00-22.30 Repetition Compulsion is a new performance by Jules Fischer, commissioned by TOASTER for the biennale. The work forms the second part of a trilogy of performances. In the first chapter, Lesions (2024), we encounter a woman trapped within a scene shaped by a single moving spotlight, a pre-recorded monologue, and her desire to maintain her self-image. The second performance, Repetition Compulsion, unfolds as a duet. The title refers to a term coined by Sigmund Freud, describing the unconscious drive to reenact traumatic relationships and relational dynamics repeatedly. Jules Fischer (DK) graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2017 and has also studied dance and choreography at the Danish National School of Performing Arts, as well as Art and Social Practice at Portland State University. Their practice focuses on collage-like, large-scale performance works. Jules is interested in fundamental emotions such as love, grief, and loneliness, explored from an ambivalent and queer perspective. In collaboration with talents from diverse disciplines, Jules has created works for institutions such as Glyptoteket, SMK, and Arken. In 2023, they were awarded a three-year working grant from the Danish Arts Foundation. 🟩 Secure your Biennale Pass to experience ‘Repetition Compulsion’ — link in bio 🟩 We hope to see you for Toaster Performance Biennale 2026!
