Jean Claude Saclag is not facing an ordinary opponent in the men’s traditional 65kg MMA semifinals on Monday, September 21.

Standing in his way of a step closer to Asian Games gold is Daisuke Murayama, a familiar face Saclag knows all too well.

The Japanese fighter has been competing as an amateur since 2018, including stints with Team Lakay Championship and Ultimate Knockout Challenge in the Philippines. He has also made several trips to Benguet to train at Team Lakay, where he shared the mats with both current and former members of the legendary stable.

One of them was Saclag.

Now, former training partners find themselves on opposite sides with an Asian Games final on the line.

On June 23, 2018, Geje Eustaquio defeated Adriano Moraes to become the undisputed ONE Flyweight World Champion in the main event of ONE: Pinnacle of Power.

Held at the Studio City Event Center in Macau, China, the bout served as both a rematch and a world title unification clash, with Moraes entering as the reigning champion while Eustaquio holding the interim belt.

Over five rounds, Eustaquio’s striking and improved takedown defense matched Moraes’ elite grappling and submission threats.

Moraes came close with several submission attempts, but Eustaquio survived and gained momentum in the later rounds with better conditioning and control. After 25 minutes, "Gravity" secured a split decision win, completing a major redemption arc.

On January 26, 2018, Geje Eustaquio claimed his first taste of gold, capturing the ONE Interim Flyweight MMA World Title in a rematch against Kairat Akhmetov at ONE: Global Superheroes.

Eustaquio went the full five rounds with the Kazakh spitfire, earning a hard-fought unanimous decision in front of a roaring hometown crowd at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Just six months later, he unified the belts by defeating Adriano Moraes via split decision in their rematch, becoming the undisputed king of the division.
