Before the start of the Championship Eights at the Head of the Charles, the Charles River becomes a meeting place for the best in the world. Historic rivals Cambridge and Oxford, national teams like the United States, and elite crews from across the globe gather for one of the most prestigious races in rowing. The anticipation builds with every shell on the water, every final adjustment, and every quiet moment before the starting signal. By the end of the day, the Dutch national team would claim the victory, but before the race, every crew arrived with the same ambition: to be the best on the Charles.

Holland Acht held off Harvard by just over half a second to win the men’s championship eights at the Head of the Charles.

The Dutch world champions clocked 13:32.835, with Harvard the fastest college crew. Cambridge medalled and finished more than 17 seconds ahead of Oxford in their first meeting of the 2027 Boat Race season.

Virginia and Princeton led the women’s colleges in third and fourth. Their places came behind two US crews with very different line-ups.

Beginnen is winnen 🧡

Want beginnen is winnen 💪
