As we head into festive season, let’s share the roads with ALL road users, cars, motorbikes, cyclists and pedestrians.

Cape Town is a favourite holiday city and as such gets flooded with tourists looking to unwind and have a good time. We welcome you here.

But at the same time, regardless of how you travel, what you do professionally or for fun, let’s be respectful towards one another and work together to make sure that everyone using our roads arrives home safely, regardless of if you’re cycling, driving or just out walking your dog.

I’ve always been drawn to sport.

As a kid it was cricket, rugby, tennis, golf — whatever I could get my hands on. Somewhere along the way, though, I stopped backing myself and sport eventually faded into the background.

Years later, after getting close to 100 kg and spending some time away from the structure, I found my way back to cycling.

At first it was just about being active.

Then it became about getting better.

And somewhere along the way, getting better became about something much bigger: learning what I’m actually capable of.

I’m still very early in that journey.

I don’t have all the answers, and I don’t know exactly where it leads.

But I’m increasingly fascinated by the process — the training, the nutrition, the recovery, the racing, the mistakes, the small improvements and everything that happens between the start line and the result sheet.

That’s the part I want to share more of.

Not just the finished product.

The process of becoming.

If that interests you, stick around.

A second chance at life brought me to UCI Gran Fondo World Championships.

Today, I realised what a privilege it is to choose to suffer. So many people in South Africa with cystic fibrosis don’t have access to the medication I’m fortunate enough to have. When things got hard today, I thought of them and how fortunate I am to represent my country. A dream I never though was possible as my health was rapidly declining. This all changed in 2023 when my life changed overnight when I took my first breathes on Trikafta, and I experienced breathing normally for the very first time!

It’s been 7 months since the incident at Maidens Cove that tragically claimed the life of fellow cyclist Idries Sheriff — a loving husband, father and much-loved member of his community.

His sister shared this update with me yesterday, so I wanted to pass it on and keep Idries’ story in the conversation.

The accused has since pleaded guilty, and his lawyer is now requesting a plea bargain.

Tomorrow, the matter is back in court.

After 7 months of waiting, I’m really hoping that justice is finally served and that there is meaningful accountability for what happened.

For Idries. For his family. And for every cyclist who deserves to get home safely.

Please keep sharing his story. Let’s not let this one be forgotten.

Remember that post from a while ago about the kids on bikes in those yellow Rawson Property jerseys and the aggressive Citi Golf driver by Cape Point?

A little recap, fully grown man aggressively overtook them (underaged children), reversed, shouted and drove over the one kids bike and in retaliation one scared child threw a rock at his back window, damaging it.

Well, after forever, here’s the update, I warn you though, it’s a sad one…

The man got to the police first and therefore the situation was in his favour. The club that is working to get underprivileged children into cycling rather than remain stuck in their circumstances has to pay for the damage to his back window, he did not have to fix the child’s bike.

The captain that leads these rides, helps these children, told me he’s scared to ride now, he’s signed up for 10km running races instead 😢

What kind of crazy world do we live in that some idiot drives past a bunch of children and decides he’s going to take out his own anger and aggression on these kids, he’s going to terrify them and the man trying to help them.

If this is you, what is wrong with you? Who hurt you this much that you think this is ok?

On a different note, a massive thank you to those that reached out to try help, especially the man that donated a set of wheels to the kid who’s bike was damaged, appreciate you.
