Home was always my mom. More complicated, my home was split into a hundred different versions of myself across states and oceans. Many lives. Many me’s. No singular place to say “God, I’m so happy to be home.”

Then came the best 7 1/2 years of my life.

My early 20s were spent depressed, anxious, and recovering. Most of you would not have recognized her. 2017 was the worst year of my life and turned out to be a PTSD nightmare. I dropped out of college. Felt aimless, hopeless, like everyone around me was a potential threat.

Then, I moved to Savannah, Georgia.

I met Sammie, Alex, and Valentina (it’s her birthday today 🎂✨) and I’d realized that what I had been missing was the safety and stability to relax, to be myself, to change and grow, to see myself through other’s eyes and find they know me more than I know myself.

When your life is in a constant state of motion—stillness is unnatural. And yet, I started to know my way around without a map. I’d see the same faces every week as I went to work. I learned their names and stopped for a quick chat. I knew which restaurants were for tourists and which were for real locals. I started to find underground cultures, speakeasies, the thrift store behind the “real” store. People would stop me for directions or recommendations and I could answer.

I was completely unfamiliar with this kind of familiarity and as much as I really loved it, it was clear the dreams I have for my career and my life were not in Savannah. Savannah had become my home but not where I felt my biggest potential lay. So, I moved to Atlanta and now I’m aimless once again. No home. No job. Figuring out how to live a life I’m proud of. It’s a big risk but knowing I have a community and place to go back to if this all ends up like shit, makes that risk a lot easier.

Thank you Savannah and all her beautiful creatures. I love you and I’ll see you soon. 🩷✨
