In the core of you.
That’s where they live, and I think I always knew the most important part lives with them.
Not in a city, not in a material place.
In the core of you.

It took leaving and it took coming back for the perfect reminder that no one place holds your light or your beauty.

Home doesn’t have a hearth, and it doesn’t have a feather pillow. Take away the skyscrapers, take away the Wal-Mart. In the end, all that you’re left with is an ever changing landscape. Glacial expanse one day, treacherous dark forests the next.

What stays are the people. What stays is the art and the beauty created by all of it. The beauty they put into you and your heart. Under the skin, into the deep tissue. They’ll make more art, they’ll laugh with other people, and you won’t be there, and that’s fine. There will be changes.

There are changes. Some stay. Some go.

I made a second trip, to celebrate the release of Sean Taylor’s truly excellent 3rd book, We Are Too Many Celebrations In The Confetti Factory. Pride weekend, though there was no time for much celebrating and plenty of time for confetti. What was found was an evening of old friends, beautiful art, surprising reunions, and surprisingly great sleep. A reminder of things that make life worth living through. A reminder of why we breathe and why light exists in the first place.

You should pick up that book. There’s magic inside of it.

Two and a half years ago I left San Francisco. I went back to get something and to leave something else behind. It was with me all along.

I know who I sit upon the mountain with, and I know who couldn’t make the climb. More than anything, I know how good the view is from up here.

Our future is frightening and full of splendor.

Typically, the human body comes with 12 ribs. There are 12 Function keys on the standard keyboard. 12 Days of Christmas, if you don’t count every single horrifying bird.

12 years since Sean Taylor’s 𝑌𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑆𝑚𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑒𝑠𝑡 𝐵𝑜𝑛𝑒𝑠 lovingly melted our skin from our bones. It felt good. It feels good. Go back and read it again, you'll see.

Now, in 2026, 𝑊𝑒 𝐴𝑟𝑒 𝑇𝑜𝑜 𝑀𝑎𝑛𝑦 𝐶𝑒𝑙𝑒𝑏𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑠 𝐼𝑛 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝐶𝑜𝑛𝑓𝑒𝑡𝑡𝑖 𝐹𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑜𝑟𝑦 is going to take us on a trip you’ll find remnants of in your pockets for years to come.

With pizza provided from San Francisco favorite Flour + Water, and readings from the author, as well as Jonathan Siegel, Stellar Cassidy, yours truly, and the fabulous Peter Bullen, we hope that you’ll join us this Sunday evening.

If you drive 90 minutes east towards Palm Springs on any given Sunday, you’ll find the Beaumont Outdoor Market. Since the late 1980’s, these merchants have functioned as a thriving desert micro-economy, sandwiched between a Walmart Supercenter and common suburbia. Now, amidst increasingly dire economic conditions, this market functions as an unintentional form of economic resistance against an increasingly oppressive system.

On the surface, this commercial bazaar seems to function as any other. Money is exchanged, goods are procured, and there’s even a small seating area where kids are selling fresh watermelon juice and lemonade. But underneath that unassuming exterior is a thriving internal economy managed by everyone from military veterans and migrant farmers, to questionable jewelers and antique dealers. Seemingly, everything starts at under twenty dollars, and if a merchant is low on change, they simply go across the way and work out a deal with another seller. Entry fees cap out at $1.00.

This is a place that isn’t concerned with the high costs of the outside world. This community has thrived for decades on its own dollar and a bit of neighborly behavior. With a large portion of their purveyors carrying uncertain legal status, concerns outside the fence about immigration raids are alive and well. Inside the Beaumont Outdoor Market, however, the resistance economy thrives.

It's Turkey Day! Aka the one Thursday of the year that most of us won't make it to the corner. Instead we'll be having a family dinner and reading poetry indoors - something we enjoy routinely. Slide into our DMs if you're interested in the next one.🦃📪

Thankfully, there are tons of poetry/cultural events happening in the Bay all weekend long so you can get your fix. Check out our stories and the "Event Recs" highlight if you're looking for recommendations.

Grateful for your part in the 16th & Mission community. See you all next week💕🌻
