Wire - Snakedrill (12MUTE53 / UK / 1986)

Sorry, but at the moment I am in a serious Duet Emmo / Wire / Dome / He Said Phase.

Also @carloibanez send me a super nice video of Drill (live), that sparked my adoration towards Wire even more.

Really can‘t wait to see Daniel Miller, Graham Edward Lewis and Bruce Gilbert play live as Duet Emmo for the first time - 43 years after their first and only record (Or So It Seems) got released.

The Duet Emmo gig takes place at the ICA (London) on the 27th of October and I‘ll be in town from the 23rd - what do you think?

Would anyone be up to meet at the small park, right next to the old Blackwing Studios for a small Get Together? Sharing some drinks and/or food on saturday the 24th?

If that’s too intimate - I know we all prefer to hide behind our records - I heard a rumour (Bananarama Quote here) that Dave the Keys aka Dave Baker (I Start Counting, Fortran 5, Komputer, lonelyklown) will have one of his brilliant Piano Singalongs that saturday evening as well. Last time I went to see him he played some Depeche Mode, Yazoo, Erasure and more.

Depeche Mode - 101 (STUMM101 / Europe / 1988/2017)

Just got this 2017 Re-Release (though it says 2016 on the cover). It was second hand, but in such a great condition and quiet cheep, so I had to get it.

What can you say about the milestone the 101 concert was for Depeche Mode and for the fans as well?

The concert, the record and the film.

Remember in 1988, Depeche Mode were still seen as 'Underground“ in the US (I know, they are still the biggest Underground Bands - filling stadions) and hearing this kind of music - in a stadion back then must have been life changing. I guess, sometimes people forget how different and alien they must have seemed at the time.

Hearing sampled sounds of ping pong balls, scissors, and metal being smashed weaved into pop songs wasn‘t the sound you usually heard coming out of the PA at stadium concerts - at least in the US, I guess.

I was listening to 101 yesterday and I am listening to it now and it still brings tears to my fanboy eyes.

The moment the crowd recognizes a song and just freaks out screaming - even after 36 (!!!) years, this does not lose any of its intensity - never.
