Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a reluctant friend with a phone, here are 5 easy posing ideas to take your portraits from meh to mesmerizing.

1. Direct Gaze
Get your subject to lock eyes with the camera and own it. Relaxed shoulders and a one-quarter headshot make for a flattering combo. This pose exudes confidence and helps forge a connection with the viewer.

2. Triangular Pose
Encourage your subject to make a triangle shape with their arms or body. Have them look away from the camera for a more dynamic shot. This pose adds visual interest and a sense of movement.

3. Leading Lines
Use a railing or other leading line to draw the viewer's eye to your subject. Blur the background to make them the star of the show. This technique creates depth and adds context to your photo.

4. Playful Props
Props can make or break a pose. Encourage your subject to use a hat, scarf, or other prop to add some flair. Have them hold onto it to create movement and interaction. This technique adds a playful touch to your portraits.

5. Framed by Nature
Get cozy with framing elements like leaves or flowers. Suggest your subject sit or lean forward to create a sense of intimacy. Experiment with different elements to find what works best for your shot.

Thanks to @technopawpup for volunteering to be my model in this portrait shoot at Whitemud Park! We strolled across charming bridges and wandered the lush trails, searching for some picturesque settings, and they were easy to find! This location is just off Fox Drive and is filled with scenic trails, wooden bridge crossings, and local wildlife, like squirrels and chickadees.

As I explained to Pauline, what I've found most challenging with these portrait shoots is that I'm generally a bit of an introvert, so stepping up and directing someone on where to stand and how to pose can be quite intimidating (especially when I'm just learning!) But what I'm discovering is that if you work together and share ideas, it becomes a great opportunity for collaboration and mutual creativity.

This audio is currently trending and this is a super easy template if you want to make a reel like this one. Click "Use Template" or simply use one intro video at 3..3 secs and then 5 clips at 1.0 seconds each. Follow @kimtannas for more landscape and portrait photography and easy reels templates.
