We are excited to announce that Jamie Ray-Leonetti will be the new executive director of the Institute on Disabilities in the College of Education and Human Development at Temple University! Ray-Leonetti, who has served as associate director of policy for the IOD since 2018, will step into her new role on Nov. 2. Before joining the IOD, she worked at the Pennsylvania Client Assistance Program and Disability Rights Pennsylvania, as well as the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. “Jamie has been a tireless champion for people with disabilities, and her policy leadership has shaped the IOD’s impact across the Commonwealth,” said Dean Monika Williams Shealey. Ray-Leonetti is excited to continue and expand the work of the IOD. “I am excited to listen and lead with purpose as we train the next generation of diverse leaders,” Ray-Leonetti said. “I look forward to hearing from individuals with disabilities and families across the Commonwealth; collaborating with community partners; engaging with faculty, students and staff in CEHD and the larger Temple community; and supporting IOD staff to ensure that disability is recognized as part of our natural human experience.” Read more on our website through the link in our bio. We had such a fun and inspiring afternoon at this year’s St. Mary Maker Fair, part of our 8th Grade Entrepreneurship Program! We’re so grateful to the talented professionals who joined us to share their creativity and expertise with our students. From 3D printing and laser printing to Silhouette design and graphic design, each guest brought something unique to the experience, leaving students inspired with new ideas to incorporate into their Welcome Kit designs benefiting @ronaldmcdonaldhousephilly This year, we were excited to bring the Maker Fair to Old St. Joseph’s Church Hall in Old City. 17% of Philadelphians are Disabled, about 274,000 of us. That’s the highest rate of any of the 10 biggest U.S. cities. So where do we go to just hang out? One great answer: @techowlpa Community Space at Temple. You can try adaptive tech before committing to it, catch up with friends, and host your own events. I ran a voting engagement workshop here on Oct. 6. It’s free to walk in, which matters when 38% of working-age Disabled Philadelphians live below the poverty line. A third place shouldn’t require a $7 latte. ☕ Huge thanks to Alanna (and her elite selfie arm) and the TechOWL team for building a room where access is the default, not the afterthought. 💙 I’m in the light blue shirt at the back of the table. Who’s your accessible-hangout MVP in Philly? Drop it below 👇 and send this to someone who needs a new spot. #DisabilityPride #Accessibility #ThirdPlaces #Philadelphia #DisabledAndProud

The Philadelphia Bilingual Disability Resource Fairs this past Friday and Saturday were a success! Here is a look at the fair on Friday at EL CORE at Esperanza Health Center in North Philadelphia. We brought together vendors and community members to connect, share resources, and celebrate our communities. Together, we highlighted valuable bilingual resources that help people with disabilities and their families access the support they need without language barriers. A sincere thank you to all the vendors, community members, and our sponsors, WellKids by PA Health & Wellness, UPMC Health Plan, and AmeriHealth Caritas, for helping make these events possible. We’re grateful to everyone who joined us in making these fairs a success! #DisabilityInclusion #Accessibility #Philadelphia #CommunityResources #LanguageAccess #AssistiveTechnology #DisabilityAwareness #DisabilityResources #ResourceFair There is a woman wearing a gray shirt.
