POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
I’ve really truly meant to make a post here for the last month or so but I’ve been the most overwhelmed I’ve been in such a long time. I’m struggling to adjust to a new university in a new city, living in a new place and under new sanitary measures, and I think I’m getting the hang of it now but for most of last term I was very (literally!) lost and confused, doing the reading at the last minute because I had to save energy for my actual graded work but also produce spoons out of thin air from the physical and mental exhaustion of it all.
I had to somehow figure out how to get the chilean vaccine pass to be able to fly home, renew my passport, then get an emergency travel document when I could tell the passport wasn’t going to be delivered on time, write my essays, and uhhh write a TEDx talk.
So that’s the big news. I managed to get extensions for my essays and the event admin didn’t mind that I needed to take longer, so I made it back relatively well (just very subluxed 😟). I wish I’d made a post about this a bit earlier and at a better timezone for anyone in the UK and Europe to see, but the talk is tomorrow. I don’t know if there’s a link for it to be streamed but to be honest I hope there isn’t because I’m not someone who enjoys attention in a literal sense and I’m already terrified of the fact that this is going to be on youtube for eternity, and I need to be as calm as possible to do the subject justice. It’s going to be about how difficult it was to thrive in (mainstream) school as an autistic person and what needs to be done going forward for autistic people to truly enjoy school and become confident people (if it isn’t clear this is an anti-functioning labels and anti-capitalist message).
Maybe the biggest deal about all this is that the event is organised by my old school, where I was ostracised and bullied but also where I met the few teachers that believed in me, including the one who said I’d be perfect for the event. It’s quite nice being the former nerdy reject coming back for revenge.
