After years of fighting creeping buttercup, I finally cleared it from one garden bed. Then I found one. A small shoot growing beneath a tree. I knew exactly what I should do. Pull it. Instead, I stopped. I couldn’t do it. So I carefully dug it up, put it in a pot, watered it, and moved it somewhere quiet. Now I check on it more often than necessary. There is something slightly ridiculous about this. I spent years learning how to kill creeping buttercup. Now I am using the same attention to keep one alive. I wanted it gone. But I did not want it defeated. There is a difference. A hundred buttercups are a problem. One buttercup is a character. ✍️ Ted M. 🌱 VMG Student
