Art Opening: Ted Thirlby Tunes In To The Resonance of Nature’s Materials

You will always know a piece by Southold artist Ted Thirlby by the way it bores into the heart of a humble construction material —plywood — the wood imbued with color earned through years of exposure to weather and work, or with geometric shapes etched by carpenters’ hands, including his own.

Several of these new works are now on display at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Greenport, where Mr. Thirlby’s solo show, “Atunements,” opens on the afternoon of Saturday, Oct. 24.

“It’s about becoming sensitive and getting on the same frequency as the material,” he said of the title of the show. “I think these pieces are also talking about resilience. They were trees, and they’re still holding forth somehow. They have courage, determination. It’s in there.”

This weekend join us for the last event at the beloved and historical Andy Tarshis Fine Art Gallery located at 133 East Main St.

We invite the community to celebrate its legacy with a cocktail party and a community-driven ephemeral art installation before an exciting new chapter unfolds. This is a rare opportunity to be part of local history as we frame our future.

Featuring hors d'oeuvres, refreshments, beer, and wine, live performances, special remarks from Legislator Doroski, Supervisor Halpin, Town Councilman Kern, and more!

Help us create an ephemeral community art experience, where messages and drawings are created live on the gallery walls and documented as the last art installation in the gallery as it's known today.

This special event brings the EEAC and local community together and helps raise funds for the new temporary gallery space at 48 W. Main St.

This isn't goodbye, just a brief farewell. Come celebrate the past, present, and future of East End Arts Council.

See you Saturday!

HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM THE EEAC TEAM! 2025 was truly a year to remember! We have made some incredible changes at EEAC, moving into a new headquarters as the riverfront property goes under necessary construction. Enjoy this montage of moments, we were so happy to share all of these experiences within our community.

We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to all that donated toward our year end appeal, together we were able to raise over $40,000 for EEAC!

Cheers to a great year ahead! 🙌
