Last winter @samsungau invited me to direct a 10 mins looped site-specific, interactive and immersive show ‘Space To Dream’ for @vividsydney and it was EPIC! Some of the most fun I’ve had on a project ever AND scooping up a casual 1.2 million pairs of eyes. Custom 12-18m tall floating towers were mounted up so we could fly @teevella over Cockle Bay in Sydney’s iconic Darling Harbour! A custom wharf was built so visitors could walk through AND phones offered a touch-sensitive way to interact with the visuals. Creating this work was a total beast and done with a gorgeous team including sound design and music by @milan.ring , @georgiamoraitis_ @collider__ for producing and @glenn_stewart_ @collider.studio for VFX magic. And of course thank you to Lucy at Samsung and the clever agency folk at @weareamplify , especially CD @ed_hallam for being fab collaborators and giving me this platform! what an initiation is was … to show up and perform in a space where I have (for the last decade or more) sat and spectated. It was such a beautiful experience to work alongside such talented Dancers and to be able to collaborate co-create, move with them and be inspired by them. Huge thank you to the @pinkyandkamal team for trusting me and with your vision of creating a solo of telling the story of the new evolution of your brand, stepping closer into the authenticity and passion you feel for movement and nature – very aligned with my personal path. The rest of this dance (the group) was entrusted to @teevella to choreograph and what an incredible job her and her dancers did, my jaw was on the floor ~ no joke 💐 I really had a cathartic experience creating this solo moving through layers of emotion that I have been processing/I’m still in process with over the last six months…. I’m still unraveling more pieces to the puzzle as I reflect back on the movement. The emotion, the connection with the other dancers, authentic connection with people who witnessed the DANCE and so on. It’s so beautiful to be witnessed and seen doing the thing that I love and I’m deeply passionate about – the thing that I identify myself as – a dancer. Thank you @tessleopold_ for these beautiful photos such wonderful memories of a real moment in time, transformation and initiation. To really set the scene, I have included some beautiful images from the rest of the performance which was choreographed by Tee Vella, she performed with them and her beautiful dancers.
