After the tragic Achilles injury to @dwightpowell .Achilles injuries and return to play seem to be a hot topic of conversation. We all want to see DP make a full recovery and are rooting for his comeback. However, his injury has left many with questions about return to play rates and performance levels after Achilles repairs.

During the Basket ball game @dwightpowell became another great athlete facing this terrible injury joining other greats like @kingcrab15 and @kobebryant. The Achilles tendon is one of the strongest tendons in the human body. Both professional athletes and weekend warriors experience Achilles tendon ruptures. Most athletes feel a pop as they are pushing off their foot and report the sensation of being kicked in the heel. The second image is an MRI of an Achilles rupture. Evidence has shown that just under 75 % of professional football players make a return to the professional level after this injury and surgery. •
Amin Et al (AJSM 2013) performed a review of NBA players who had Achilles repairs from 1998-2011. They showed the average age at time of injury was 29.7 yrs. in this study, 39% of the players never returned to play, 61% played at least one season after injury while 44% returned for more than two seasons. When compared to controls players post Achilles repair had a significant decline in performance based on PER (player efficiency rating).
•
Trofa et al ( AJSM 2017) reviewed professional athletes post Achilles repair in the NFL, NBA, MLB, and NHL. This studied concluded that when individual sports were compared NBA players were most significantly affected experiencing significant decreases in games played, play time, and performance.

There isn’t a great deal of literature on professional athletes with Achilles repairs, but hopefully this sheds some light on a hot topic in sports today Thanks@sydon_pereira for noticing me about this so that I could pen down something about this topic and help people understand the injury. $A simple yet effective way to know if Your ANKLE is prone to injury ..??🏀👀 . . Two of the most common injuries in basketball are ankle sprains and knee injuries, and these are often caused by deficiencies at the foot and the hips. 🦶 . . Lack of ankle dorsiflexion is directly linked to increased foot pronation (arch drop), increased dynamic valgus at the knees (knock-knee position), and can cause a series of ankle and knee injuries including ankle sprains, plantar fasciitis( heel pain), stress fractures, patellar/achilles tendinitis, and patello-femoral pain syndrome(KNEE PAIN) (shin pain ) . Basically what happens at the foot and ankle effects everything up the chain. 🦵 they all are connected . . You need 20 degrees of dorsiflexion to run and jump optimally, otherwise your body will find less efficient ways to get the job done. . . Try this ankle mobility test at the wall (swipe right): Your toes should be about 10cm away from the wall and you should still be able to touch your knee to the wall without bringing your heel off the ground. A definitive must try for the athletes to know their mobility around ankle and best way yet simple and effective way to avoid any injuries Thanks to @vinayakvinod for the ankle picture ( most obedient patient ever 🤟😋). #anklesprains #ankleinjuryprevention #basketballinjuries #orthopaedics #sportsmedicineindia #ankleinjuryprevention$
