POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

tekunomama brings regis back to back with terry donovan to denver this saturday, all night long.

regis is karl o'connor, irish-born. in 1993 he co-founded downwards records with peter sutton, who records as female, and with surgeon he helped originate the birmingham sound: chicago house run through darker european electronics. british murder boys and sandwell district followed. his records include againstnature with peter sutton on tresor in 2000 and manbait on blackest ever black in 2015.

terry donovan has been a house of god resident since 1994. the birmingham night began in january 1993. his method, as he put it to red bull music academy, is "a lot of wonderful house music" early in the night, so that by the time the techno comes it is "set in context." he remembers first seeing karl o'connor play at the institute: "a special bloke in the room." house of god billed them as "regis vs terry donovan" at the tunnel club on 1 november 2019, and tekunomama's recap of their first night together in denver, on 28 february 2025, says they went back to back for over four hours.

@tekunomama, the denver promoter founded in 2022 by their own account, put it this way: "no interruptions. no set changes." this season they have brought perc, rich medina, ufo95, isaiah and trovarsi, with d.dan next on 12.12.

isaiah touches down friday for his denver debut, his second us date ever. amsterdam knows him as the co-founder of frenzy, the radion-anchored party and label he has run since 2019, and of vulged, its younger sibling. the resident advisor ledger reads 111 nights: awakenings upclose three years straight, a sold-out fold london takeover, fabrik madrid, rso berlin. on record it is loop-driven hypnotic techno at a hard 140, releases on suara and stutzpunkt, and periodical out on backspin four weeks ago. start with monstera.

trovarsi is back. tekunomama's own copy calls her 2023 anniversary set, b2b with alx-106, unforgettable. the la artist returns with receipts: movement detroit in may, an ep cdm called "brutal techno fed by serious live chops," everything built live on a modular rig. she is in denver twice this weekend, friday here and saturday at emixx west.

konvulsion is the denver act on the bill. both crews have booked him before, quite right on lost//found 02 in april 2025, tekunomama a month later, and their collab brings him back as the shared local. eight self-released eps since 2020, all called hypnotically funky, the eighth out in july. he comes in twenty days after closing subspace's ten-hour relics ii, 4am to 6, straight after drumcell.

This is a long one, I wrote it in the immediate aftermath of the best weekend of techno I’ve experienced in Denver. A weekend that reminds me to stop looking out with envy of other techno cities. What we have here is so special, the very fabric of our scene defies everything in its surroundings. Techno can truly exist as an underground community, for us and by us. A huge thank you to every collective who is dedicated to preserving our fragile community. Please let me know your thoughts and opinions in the comments below.
