100+ knitted scarves showing 100+ years of temperature change in the Hudson Valley.

We’re thrilled to showcase the entire collection at Mahopac Library, Third Floor Gallery through July 27.

July 11, 2026 12:00 to 2:00 PM Public Reception, learn more about the Tempestry Project, light refreshments, open to the public, no registration required.

About The Tempestry Project:

A “Tempestry” is a temperature tapestry - a knitted scarf-sized wall hanging that shows the daily high temperatures for a specific location and year...this exhibit shows temperatures in the Hudson Valley from 1896 - 2024.

130 knitters from across the Mid-Hudson Library System volunteered to create this one-of-a-kind traveling exhibit.

Knitters personally chose the year they wished to represent and were provided temperature data, an instruction kit and color-coded yarns. Each yarn color represents a temperature range.

Each scarf shows January - December temperatures for that year. What year were you born? Look for it to see what the temperatures were like then!

As you look at the exhibit as a whole, you can see how the climate has changed in 100+ years
here in the Hudson Valley.

Special thanks to the @midhudsonlibsys Mid-Hudson Library System and the @tempestryproject for sharing this amazing exhibit with the Mahopac community!

There is nothing in my life i am more honored by than being part of this moment. To witness the sweetness of that gaze, love-locked on each other in this ritual of celebration. The myriad forms of handcrafted loveliness created over months and even through a flood, to gift to all who were there. The fledgling bald eagle accompanying the celebration... A rainbow, of course, to send us into the day. #tempestrywedding #fiberartswedding #palindromewedding #pridemonthwedding #solsticewedding #birthdaywedding #churchoftheflyingspaghettimonster #officiant

Yesterday, I had the privilege of playing a small part in the wedding of one of my closest friends (for thirty years 😬) to the love of her life. And what a beautiful celebration it was! Congratulations Emily and Asy - may your hands be forever clasped in friendship and your hearts joined forever in love!

Top tier - gingerbread cake and caramelized apples
Middle tier - lemon cake with fresh blueberry filling
Bottom tier - chocolate cake with gooey coconut filling

The absolutely spectacular flowers are from @theflowerbarny

Just finished my "New Normal" Tempestry Project Scarf which visually shows how climate change is rapidly getting worse, and the earth is heating up at a faster and faster pace (so much of the scarf is made up of blues until you start to get into the 80's)

This scarf is a visual representation of annual deviation-from-average temperature, and was inspired by Professor Ed Hawkins' Warming Stripes climate data visualization work.

Each 2 row segment represents a year from 1881 to 2025. The color of the segment represents the deviation of that year's annual average temperature from the overall average global temperature of the 20th century (data from NOAA).

We have had a bunch of crafters around the state creating these scarves to give to our state legislators and our governor to persuade them to take climate change more seriously.

In more recent years we can see the deviation rapidly increasing as the average temperature increases.

They're NYC's climate data... knitted by hand.

Come by the Arts Center for Open Studios this Saturday, May 16, and catch opening day of the Tempestry Project's installation!

The Tempestry Project (@tempestryproject) is coming to the Arts Center! Created by a community of volunteer knitters, the project features sixteen hand-knitted panels or “tempestries,” each depicting a full year of the city’s daily temperature data rendered into various colors. This is New York City’s first Tempestry Collection, part of the nationwide Tempestry Project, a collaborative fiber arts offering a unique, hands-on perspective on environmental change.

Presented in partnership with Madison Square Park Conservancy (@madsqparknyc) at LMCC's Arts Center at @governorsisland.

In honor of Earth Week - a beautiful art installation representing climate change through fiber arts. The project uses climate data from NYC @centralparknyc through 16 decades from 1870-2024. This installation features 16 Tempestries crafted by volunteer knitters. Each Temperature Tapestry represents a full year of daily temperatures using @noaaclimate

This is NYC @madsqparknyc first @tempestryproject and I’m so honored to be part of it. Such a wonderful way to learn about climate change.

The Tempestry Project is currently on display @hotelsevillenomad until April 30th
