Death to the heretic, death to the xeno, without fear, without mercy, may THE GOD-EMPEROR protect us

"The Living Bastion"

Despite having witnessed the capabilities of a dreadnought first hand countless times, Praetor Antioch was still unprepared for the sheer destruction that awaited him as he and his brothers crested the ridge.

Below him was an oval abattoir of carnage at the centre of which stood the ochre giant, its yellow hue a beacon of light amidst a sea of blood. Even from this distance, the marines could hear the distinctive crumpling of plasteel and ceramite as the dreadnought crushed the Iron Warrior terminator beneath it's foot.

Antioch and his escorts began to wade through pulverised remnants of whatever had tried to stand against the Leviathan. Mounds of flesh out of which hung arms and entrails surrounded the dreadnought in a circle. Torsos encased in ceramite lay in various states of ruin. He noted with satisfaction the hooves and horns of beastmen that were amongst the wreckage of this failed assault.

Antioch felt his hearts begin to quicken as they drew closer to the leviathan dreadnought. Although the name plate was awash with blood, there could be no mistaking the giant before them.

"Malagar"

The dreadnought was known to the 7th Legion by many names.

The Unbroken. The Unconquerable. Dorns Fist. The Living Bastion.

Each one was a testament to the force of will of the soul entombed within this coffin of ceramite.

The dreadnought turned to face them, pieces of debris and gore sliding off his chassis as he did so.

"I have been sent to recall you, most honoured of brothers. Lord Dorn requires your strength elsewhere. We are to re-enforce the defences surrounding Bhab Bastion. It will be our last stand, to cover those retreating to the inner sanctum."

Several seconds of silence ebbed before the dreadnoughts speaker grill boomed a reply.

"His will is my command."

Then,

"We shall die well, brothers"
