RESTLESS single OUT NOW
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Fun and games! So when I finally took delivery of this white SB1, I was surprised at how pristine and mint it is, and I was a little concerned that the pole pieces for the g-string on the pickup had been screwed out almost touching the strings, and that the frets had that telltale squarish factory profile from the Leo era. My point is that NOBODY ever played this bass, although someone did sell the case, the wanker. I'm confident that the Daddario rounds that sounded brand new are probably the factory strings, so I will hang on to them for some unknown reason but I installed new TI flats. The dead G didn't really show up so much sitting around in your office playing through a crappy guitar amp, but at stage volume it's undeniable. After trying a few things to fix it and failing, I contacted @realjohnmclaren who, after finding out that it was a 1988 bass, suggested that I swap the saddles around. This fixed it. Turns out that Leo's cast parts supplier was supplying a few things with voids in the casting. Bummer, and John told me about beating their collective heads against the wall on this intermittent sporadic flaw before he started sawing things up with a band saw and discovered the cavities. He suggested that I replace the saddles with brass ones, and when I asked where I might source such a thing, he said he knew that he had some and someday he'll find them and send me a set. And for the three people still reading? I found some Schaller aluminum post tuners in a cabinet that I had forgotten about. These save over 3 oz in weight from the brass posts, I don't know what bass will get them yet as all of my basses are already pretty light. If the base is over 9 lb 9 oz, it belongs to someone else. So I've got a short video of @strandedinthecityband with @eltononbass playing this sb1, and @kimmyteith with his ASAT special reverse wound pick up in the center position of his S-500... #leofenderera #glguitars #sb1bass #bassesbyleo #guitarsbyleo
