Sometimes your coach believes in you more than you believe in yourself.

This photo was taken over the summer. @coachwatto had just announced the final lap when he suddenly pushed me to kick again and do one more.

My brain had already decided I was done. My legs weren’t too happy either. But I went again.

That’s what I value most about good coaching. It’s not just about strength, technique or performance. It’s about challenging the limits we set for ourselves.

I’ve lived with type 1 diabetes since I was 23, and I never imagined I’d be doing what I’m doing now, especially in my mid-40s.

Over the last few years, @cj_training1 , my boxing coach and @coachwatto my cycling coach, have helped me push past mental barriers and achieve things I once thought were beyond my reach.

A good coach knows when to push you, when to hold you back and how to see the potential you don’t yet see in yourself.

A little appreciation for the coaches who see our potential before we do. ❤️

RIDER SPOTLIGHT: JASMIN SYKES
Just over 18 months ago Jasmin was new to cycling and contemplating selling her cello to buy her first proper road bike.

Fast-forward to today, and Jasmin is one of the strongest WATTO racers, progressing through the categories and recently taking on the @rasnamban in Ireland, coached by @coachwatto and supported by @teamjadan.

Her story is a reminder that you don’t need to have grown up cycling to discover what you’re capable of.

And yes, she did sell that cello! It became her Van Diesel.

Jasmin, over to you!

• What got you into cycling?

“I was running a lot but kept getting injured, so I started cycling to maintain my fitness. After moving to London from the countryside, cycling also gave me a way to escape the city and make a whole new group of friends.”

• How did coaching help you progress?

“Cycling is about so much more than fitness. Coached sessions helped me develop the close-riding and bike-handling skills essential for racing and and finding a supportive community of women to train with made a huge difference.

• What has been your proudest racing moment?

“My first race was an open Cat 4 against men, and I somehow finished in the top 10! But coming third at Redbourne and earning my Cat 3 licence was a real turning point. I felt genuinely confident.”

• What would you say to women thinking about giving racing a go?

“Don’t make racing the be-all and end-all. Enjoy riding, meeting people and getting stronger. But if you’re tempted, just give it a go! There are plenty of opportunities for beginners, and you might surprise yourself with how much fun you have. I only started 18 months ago, if I can do it, anyone can!”

Chapeau, Jasmin! ⭕️👏❤️

You start cycling for the riding. You stay for the people.

This summer was a tough one emotionally, but the friends I’ve made through cycling showed up for me in ways that meant more than they probably realise.

These photos are a little reminder of the people, friendships and support that make this community so special.

We ride together. We support each other. ❤️

Already kissing summer goodbye? ☀️
Not quite yet! Our @coachwatto women training and skills sessions are still here, bringing back those summer riding vibes, while keeping you moving, learning and progressing.

We now have two daily sessions:
• 6:30am — Regent’s Park
• 7:00pm — Lee Valley Velopark

I will be coaching at the 7pm session.

All levels are welcome. The drills are always designed around the riders who turn up, so everyone gets something from the session, whatever your level.

Come ride with us on Thursdays!

A cracking atmosphere at yesterday’s Trash Mile Summer Slam - the crowds were buzzin!! 🥳🔥

Absolutely loved binning my usual strategy of sitting in and riding extra cautiously. Instead, I took the crit as an opportunity to have a good crack at attacking off the front. Again. And again. And again 😂🙌

Having never raced liked this before, it was a real chance to see just how far I could dig myself into a pit and recover aha! Clearly dug a little too deep towards the end and cooked myself so well-done into no man’s land for the last 5 laps 🤣🪦

That said, without the pressure of sticking to my normally reserved racing strategy, this was quite possibly the most fun I’ve ever had in a crit! My main goal was to have a good time and I can say that was 100% achieved 🥹🎉 Still managed to cross the line (probably 3rd / 4th last) in style hehehe🪽✨

Thank you to everyone who cheered on (esp when I got dropped loool), to all the photographers, race organisers, event sponsors, and commissars for a brilliant day out! ☀️💛

✨ might have lost the race, but won the hearts of the people 💞

Well that was how to spend a Saturday, brilliant turn out and atmosphere at the Trash Mile Slam. Met a lot of cool people too.

#ImageDescription
A montage of images set at the Lee Valley Velopark outdoor track. It was the Trash Mile Summer Slam, there were hundreds of very happy people riding bikes on the track, going very fast indeed, having fun whilst lots of people watched and drank Jubel in the sun, which was a perfect way to spend a Saturday.
