βA friend told me about and invited me to Generation Next club - a Christian club founded by some young people who were determined to be a source of positive influence on their generation. I thought there was no harm in checking out the guys there and so I went.
At the first meeting, I met a couple of guys who eventually would form the basic, foundation-friends of my life. Two of those people were Femi and Toni who actually started G-Next. Then I met their sister β Bunmi. At that time, we just teenagers fresh out of secondary school.
We were all just cordial friends and because it was a circle of age-grades, we had lots of mutual friends. Because of this, Bunmi and I used to hang out a lot and just have fun and all that. At the time, we were in EAC together too and that was another reason why we had lots of mutual friends. So, because of these, we always spent a lot of time together as friends.
Bunmi would call me with their land line and weβd talk and talk and talk. One gist could just lead to another and wherever gist found us, we just stayed and made ourselves comfortable. Sometimes sef, it was by the roadside and weβd just stay there and gist and it was always fun.
At that time in G-Next, it was the rule that members could not date. So as close as we were β Bunmi and I β we could not date. Femi and Toni were the relationship-busters and so, at some point, they came to us and asked if we were dating.
By then, even though we were not officially going out, we had come to like each other a lot. I would visit their house to see her brothers and sister but then, I had my own mission too. My eye was on the goal. Still all that time, we remained friends.
Life continued β she moved on to UI while I was still in EAC and eventually I got into UI too. Once I fully settled in UI, we discovered that we couldnβt continue fooling ourselves being friends and I didnβt want any sharp guy to snatch her away while we were still pretending to be friends.....
