Checked the mail this morning and this came in. If only y’all knew my actual journey towards getting this degree. Whew!! Like I mean from fighting poverty, possibility of homelessness, losing time with family, friends, and close loved ones that passed away. I was constantly fighting through ups and downs with depression, anxiety, grief, and so much more. Even dealing with micro aggressions, discrimination and racism in past clinical settings. Working for free at that smh. Losing my dissertation chair five months before graduating and having to start a good chunk of my dissertation process all over and not even knowing if I would actually graduate and finish. Walked crossed the stage in June with just faith that I would still complete dissertation by my August/summer deadline. Which is why invites were so last minute and I didn’t get to tell everyone about it. So much happened and so much is still happening but one thing I know for sure, is that God has gotten me through this chapter of life. Blessed me with supportive family and friends and I know God will continue to get me through the current chapter that has followed. This is only the beginning. Don’t box me in cause I have a tendency to break down walls cause no box can contain my passion and creativity. So much to do with this degree and best believe imma use it to inspire, grow, and continue my journey as an artist as well. Introducing Dr. Corey Pearson. Wouldn’t be who I am today without all of the strong beautiful black women that supported me throughout my life! Leaders, mothers, sisters, aunties, mentors, educators, lawyers, counselors, singers, hairstylists, and more. For the past couple of years, I’ve gone back and forth with trying to figure out “how” to do what God has ordained me to do. I’ve sought my own strategies and attempted to implement them and many times they flopped. It wasn’t until my most recent cry out to God at the end of 2019 that He spoke such a profound revelation....”everything that you need has already been given, you just have to activate them”. That was the most humbling ah-ha moment that I’ve ever had in life about anything. -
