It's Bandcamp Friday! As well as the new album from Jacken Elswyth available for the first time today and the freshly-arrived re-press of Colossal Squid, we have recent releases from Objections, Joy Dimmers (last few copies) and the paperback version of "Dead Centre" by Tim Farthing/Reigns. There's also a re-up of "In Blood" by Hey Colossus (also appearing in shops again) and endless back catalogue gold. If you're outside the UK then our Spanish HQ even has copies of the extremely scarce jellyskin album. Plus - as always - we've dived deep into the WS warehouse to find some rarities for the completist or the curious. Head over to Bandcamp and do some deep browsing, treat yourself, you deserve it! wrongspeedrecords.bandcamp.com or linkinbio Have a lovely weekend! WSHQ X #bandcampfriday #wrongspeedrecords

We’re proud to announce WSR046 is “In Brine”, the debut album by Leeds duo jellskin. The first single “Bringer Of Brine” and video can be seen and heard on all the usual platforms. Head to our You Tube channel to see the video in full (linksinbio for everything). "In Brine” will be in shops (via Cargo) on June 9th. You can pre-order it direct from us on Bandcamp from May 5th.     A couple of years ago Will Ainsley got in touch with us about a solo album. We get more people getting in touch like this than you can imagine. It's hard to get heard. We know. We're on both sides of this equation - playing in bands / running label. We see both hideous sides. Labels don't ignore on purpose, labels are swamped. Will's solo album landed at exactly the right time; I must have been sitting down with a pot of coffee. I must have just walked the dog. I must have had a moment of silence. It was the Tenchpress album and the song-writing, sound choices and feel were perfect. We released it. I very much doubt we're the only label to do this, but we do a little research on the artist if we don't know them. The word jellyskin appeared in Will’s profile, so I gave a cursory listen. It turned out to be a duo with Zia Larty-Healy. I was blown away. Will sent me a private link with mixes of an album in progress. We kept in touch as the pair toiled. I wasn't keeping a poker face, I wanted WS to release it. As it developed, I was hearing everything I love - the melancholy of Broadcast, the dark experimental electronica of Chris & Cosey, the European style melodies of latter Stereolab, and (for those who go deep) it reminded me of Fatamorgana - a dark pop affair on the traditionally punk label La Vida Es Un Mus. I've lived with the jellyskin songs for 18 mths and they've engraved themselves into my soul. We'll forever say we're a genre-free record label, but there is ONE thing that ties everything together, a component that’s hard to place. It’s music made by people who HAVE to do it and we know it when we hear it. "In Brine" is a modern classic. File under: music for all time, music for every day, music for all moods. This week's radio show is up on GFM and Mixcloud. Pre-recorded in the height of the heatwave. Trust me, if Joe offers you the loan of his headphones then politely decline as it got *clammy* at WSHQ. Hence a lot of the choices have a cooling theme. As usual, Mingus has had absolutely enough of this shit. Can't get that cat interested unless you play the Country Teasers. Some more big release news coming up soon but we had to reject the vinyl as it melted in transit. Not kidding. #wrongspeedradio

@orburycommon announce The Traditional Dance of Orbury Common, their debut release with us, out 1st May. The EP's lead single The Crooked Bayleaf, which features Bristol artist @tenchpress is available now. Link in bio. "A group of lassies enter stage left but the whole room is a stage and you’re the main character now. The backdrop - an empty hillside of too-green grass; projected shadows thumping along to the steady pulse of our narrator Tenchpress’s depraved patter." - Orbury Common on The Crooked Bayleaf ORBURY COMMON is more than Bristol and Stroud-based musicians Josh Day-Jones and Emlyn Bainbridge. It’s a place rooted in their collective imagination, a warped parallel to our own world, with its own strange cultures, customs, landscapes and landmarks.
