We have been overwhelmed by all of the donations to the bookshop crowdfunder.
Thank you so much to everyone who has
donated or shared the link.

There are now just a few days to go, and we'd love your help to try and reach £10,000.

This would enable us to cover the costs of additional staffing and admin and help us keep the space open next year.

The GoFundMe page will close at the end of the day on Friday 23 October. Keep spreading the word!

Tomorrow sees the publication of Penguin Press’ gorgeous edition of 48kg by Batool Abu Akleen - a poet, a diarist, an incredible human being. The collection is already highly praised by poets and writers from far and wide, and described most recently by Mícheál McCann in The Irish Times as ‘the most horrifying, exquisite and staggering poems I have ever read…This essential poetry of witness stares into the abyss, and we must look in the direction it looks.’

Next Tuesday 15th! Visionary ecopoetics & airs on folk ballads!

Huge double poetry launch of @jaygao13' * The Dead One, The Unconscious One, Thundering in Your Ear, Thriving Slumber* (@carcanetpress & @imogen_cassels ' *Hares On The Mountain* (@tenementpress). With support from local poets Tom Nutting and @calebparkinpoet

The Books:

Part ecopoetic inventory, part dream vision, Jay Gao’s *The Dead One, The Unconscious One, Thundering in Your Ear, Thriving Slumber* is an experimental book-length serial poem on the arboreal. Rewiring nature and language, this collection is an inventory for dreaming treely, dispersed across a commons-place of grafting and cruising, racial and queer desires, diasporic entanglements and renewal. These serial poems arrive at the hewn nation of the unthought like an invasive species addled by contemporary contaminants. Alternating between leafy lexical snippets and branching hypermetrical lines, the book turns sylvestral form and grammar over towards a visionary ecopoetics.

Cassels’ *Hares on the mountain* engages with the folk ballad of the same name, to offer an observational suite of airs obsessed with the act of looking and watching as a transformative play, examines the dealer’s hand to portray the habitually wounded. These poems are an active ‘watching’ of the wounded as she goes out and sets her stall for wounding in kind; and an effort to convey what she finds—or subsequently forges—in her finding. In a merger of tenses—of foresight, hindsight, and presentism— *Hares on the mountain* mimics the want and will of a song to walk, stroll, and wander—to drift in a leisurely and aimless way between contexts, whilst remembering and/or misremembering something of its true self as it travels—to observe the tidal drift of change engendered by climates and elements and objects in a landscape of good / bad emotions until the season is over, and the subject repairs itself to a new winter.

Some books I’m considering next…….help me choose!

I’m at part three in Lamento so really should finish it! Keen to read Our Cut of Salt and Range before they come out in the next few months too. Loved everything I’ve read from Linden Editions so have high hopes for My Dreadful Body. Also very grateful to be sent my first Printim Editions, and keen to explore. Have also got a book of poetry there that I’ve been meaning to get to in WiT month, think it came as part of my @palfest subscription a while ago.

So, which would you pick up first? 👀

Thanks as always to some of the tagged publishers and lovely people for sending early or PR copies my way!

In today's spotlight on entries to The Queen Mary Small Press Fiction Prize 2027 is 'Barabus' by S J Fowler, out now from Tenement Press. It's the story of a "medic roaming an English city, going from call to call, encountering accident, amusement, injury and error... in the functionary detachment of applied temporary medicine" and it's "a midnight dark comedy with the bite and temerity of Chris Morris—the acerbity of Peter Weis —and the ambiguity of Le Clezio". Make an emergency call to 'Barabus' and support the best of UK and ROI small press fiction.
