FRACTAL NOTES #02
Math rock can sound “mathy” even in 4/4.

Last time, we talked about odd time signatures — one reason math rock can feel unusual.

But that’s only one part of the story.

A song can stay in a completely familiar 4/4 and still feel strange, tense, or unpredictable because of where the accents land, how the beat is divided, and how different instruments lock together.

Same 1–2–3–4.
Different gravity.

That’s the trick: complexity doesn’t always come from adding or removing beats. Sometimes it comes from making familiar beats behave in unfamiliar ways.

And you don’t have to count every note to hear it.

Keep the pulse steady.
Listen to where the guitar, bass, and drums place their weight.
Eventually, what sounded chaotic starts to reveal its logic.

It’s still 1–2–3–4. Just a different way to make you feel it.

What should Fractal Notes explain next?

Guitarras inquietas, ritmos que se tropiezan a propósito y canciones que encuentran melodía justo donde todo parece estar a punto de romperse.

Discos donde la intensidad no está peleada con lo melódico🔮

Restocks for this week! I know the drops have been very inconsistent, but after this week I’m hoping to get back on track with more regular restocks 🙏

Went pretty heavy on the math rock as you can tell lol

As always, follow to be the first to know when stuff gets dropped. Link in bio to shop!
