This community art festival is free, family-friendly, and open to the public—featuring local art exhibitions, hands-on activities, and, of course, steamroller printing. A big thank you to @idlewildbutterflyfarm for having Trevor DeCuir and I create these lanterns for MOTH BALL 2025! It was a fabulous success and all around magical time! So fun to play with friends, spend time in the lab, and celebrate these incredibly important night creatures! Trevor and I learned a lot of lessons in structural design, lighting, and paper dyeing while creating the hickory horned devil and Rosy Maple Moth lanterns! We can’t wait to utilize these new skills in upcoming projects! Follow idlewild butterfly farm for for info about upcoming events, including a special spider walk I hear is happening in October 👀🕷️✨

TWO MONTHS IN THE VILLE… Surreptitious stories of Margaret Burroughs sneaking gin into art conferences, Speed Museum exhibitions moonlighting as family reunions where children give toasts at dinners (Shoutout Dr. Fari Nzinga !!!), getting told off in the archives for using pen, visiting Grandmas in Cave City who lovingly call me “young man”, smoking Kentucky tobacco alongside murals of bell hooks, poring over Sam Gilliam’s MFA thesis, and learning that all of this is what folks refer to as the Southern accent.

Born and raised in Louisville, Terion focuses her traditional education in printmaking as it intersects with alternative processes in photography. Terion primarily works with lumen prints and is an environmentally mindful artist, recycling whenever possible for her artworks. Come see Terion anytime 10:00AM - 5:00PM on 4/19 at the Portland Museum (@portlandmuseumky), where she will demonstrate her lumen printing process with Louisville Visual Art (LVA). Since 1909, Louisville Visual Art (LVA) has served as a creative space for education, programming, and events to bring together community members in art-making. They offer Children’s Fine Art Classes (CFAC) for K-8 kids as well as LVA Academy classes for high schoolers. LVA supports artists by hosting exhibitions, grants, and awards, in addition to hosting Artebella on the Radio on ARTxFM. “Let’s Proceed…” artist spotlight @sheisterion Terion Thomas “Hibisceae Bleu” (detail image shown) Lumen print on photo paper 11x14 $350 Born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, Terion Thomas explores early and contemporary techniques of alternative processes in photography. In 2020 she graduated from University of Louisville’s Hite Art Institute with a BFA in 2D studio arts with a concentration in printmaking. At her core Thomas is a traditional printmaker, excelling in intaglio printing, but she has been honing her skills in lumen printing after discovering the practice in 2019. Thomas predominantly works with botanicals, engaging with the irony of working with something so ephemeral but ultimately making it immortal through her work.
