What a fabulous introduction to the talented world of New Caledonian visual artist and musician Patrice Kaikilekofe, our 2026 Villa Antipode #Noho resident.

Of Wallisian and Futunan descent, Patrice is creating a series of sculptural works that explore the musical and linguistic resonances and echoes spanning the Pacific. It is this curiosity and desire to foster dialogue among different Pacific cultures that led to his selection.

It was fascinating to watch his creative process at the residency, made possible thanks to our partnership with Massey University and the City of Wellington.

I look forward to seeing the end result!

Finally having some playful art time after busy people time @tewharehera . Joyfully moving paint around after a very long time. Embodying ocean movement and light bouncing. Seeing what happens. Listening to the whistling wind. Not worrying about the end point - curious about what is revealed in the process. #oceancollablab

Today- Workshop in the morning, music and art in the afternoon and lots of reflecting in between. We asked participants today: How is the ocean important to you? And got some incredible responses from these junior scientists/philosophers/artists and policymakers. #oceancollablab

Making materials for next week’s awesome oceans workshop with Roseneath school. Giving them some time in the sun before I have to cut the laminated lighting gel bits out again. Looking forward to seeing how they get layered up to make sense of how our oceans work, but also how the sun may project these onto the studio floor tomorrow if lucky . Also ngā mihi @rkpriestley for coming to play today! Super collaborating with ocean pals is the best @tewharehera #oceancollablab
