I had the pleasure of sitting down with Jael Cruikshank, National FFA Western Region Vice President, to talk about her journey representing FFA across the country. We discussed the experiences that have shaped her as a leader, the relationships she's built along the way, and how servant leadership continues to guide everything she does.

Jael's story is a powerful reminder that leadership isn't about titles—it's about serving others, embracing growth, and making a lasting difference.

What happens when a company invests in young leaders for the long term?
At the Texas FFA Convention, I sat down with Mitchell Dale, Chairman of the Texas FFA Foundation Board, to discuss Ford’s decades-long support of FFA and the impact of the Ford Leadership Scholar Program.
Mitchell shares how the program selects students from across Texas, provides leadership training and mentorship, and challenges each scholar to develop a service project that addresses a need in their community.
Viewers will learn how these students gain experience in planning, fundraising, public speaking, and community leadership. After 16 years, the program has reached students from 107 FFA chapters and created an impact in more than 100 Texas communities.
Mitchell’s mission is to help young people discover their potential, serve others, and become the next generation of leaders.

What does it take to scale a company without sacrificing quality or culture?
At the Texas FFA Convention, I sat down with Keith Mundee, President of American Hat Company, to talk about craftsmanship, leadership, and the values behind one of the most recognized names in Western wear.
Keith shares how American Hat Company grew from producing roughly 270 hats a day to 1,000—while continuing to make each hat one at a time. He explains why every team member is responsible for quality, how the company’s “Positive Times” philosophy guides its decisions, and why supporting young leaders matters so deeply.
Viewers will learn that growth is not always about becoming bigger. As Keith says, “Bigger is not better. Better is better.”
His mission extends beyond making hats. It is about promoting positivity, honoring the military and first responders, preserving Western values, and investing in the next generation of leaders.

Great leaders aren't born—they're taught.

I sat down with Alyali Marcano, Founder of Rooted In Leadership, to discuss why simply telling young people to "be leaders" isn't enough. They need practical tools, strong mentors, and values that keep them grounded when life gets difficult.

Alyali's mission is to equip young people with practical leadership skills rooted in character, faith, and purpose so they can confidently lead wherever life takes them.

This week was a reminder of why I’m proud to be part of agricultural education.

From outstanding keynote speakers and industry training to reconnecting with mentors, meeting new teachers, and celebrating our profession, the Agriculture Teachers Association of Texas Conference was a week well spent.

The highlight for me, though, was meeting so many of you. I lost count of how many teachers stopped to introduce themselves, shared how you’ve used curriculum from Ag Mech Made Simple, told me about your students following the page, or simply offered words of encouragement. Those conversations meant more than you know.

To the veteran ag teachers who continue to answer my questions, challenge me, and invest in the next generation of teachers, thank you. Your willingness to share your knowledge is one of the things that makes this profession so special.

Thank you to the Agriculture Teachers Association of Texas for another outstanding conference, and to the Texas FFA Association for sponsoring the grant that covered my registration and housing. Opportunities like these make it possible for teachers to continue learning and bringing new ideas back to their students.

We often tell our students that agriculture is more than an industry, it’s a family. After this week, I was reminded just how true that is.

Here’s to another great year of serving students and strengthening agricultural education across Texas.

Some moments are bigger than the event itself.

Last night, the Texas FFA Foundation announced a new endowed scholarship for the Agricultural Mechanics Design & Fabrication Proficiency Award, honoring Bill Priefert and Brian McCoy for their lasting impact on agriculture and the skilled trades.

Seeing this kind of investment in our students and our profession gives me a lot of optimism for where Ag Mechanics is headed.

Serving as the Texas FFA Foundation JR ambassador coordinator was truly an honor. From getting the opportunity to working with 72 ambassadors, the foundation staff, advisors and most importantly our sponsors that support the Texas FFA and it vision. Thank you to everyone that made this week a true memory. I was reminded why I am in this organization, and why I can look forward to my future.
