It was an honor to meet Governor Greg Abbott and have the opportunity to be in the presence of leadership here in our great state of Texas. 🤍

Regardless of political party or personal beliefs, I believe there is something incredibly meaningful about being engaged in the communities we call home and taking part in the democratic process.

As we head into election season, I hope we all remember what a privilege it is to have a voice and a vote. There are people around the world that wish they had that same freedom, and it is something we should never take for granted.

Do your research, know what matters to you, and use your voice. 🇺🇸

⚡ The AI boom runs on electricity, water, and land — but who’s footing the bill depends entirely on where you live.
We analyzed 10,000 news articles on data centers from national outlets and three states (Virginia, Texas, Ohio) to see how the story changes with geography.
Nationally, it’s about investment, corporate deals, and the race to power AI.
Locally, it’s an electric bill, a water supply, a zoning meeting — and residents showing up to ask who pays.
“If corporations are going to run data centers in Virginia, they should cover the cost of them.” — Sen. Mark Warner

REPORT: The long-delayed effort to build a second roadway connection to South Padre Island is moving closer to construction, with RGV native Texas Transportation Commissioner Alex Meade saying TxDOT now expects the project could break ground before 2030.

Meade made the remarks during “Island Horizon: Our City’s Journey,” a public briefing at the South Padre Island Convention Center, where he appeared alongside Mayor Patrick McNulty.

“Investing in transportation infrastructure is one of the most impactful investments local, state, and federal governments can make,” Meade said.

“The Second Causeway to South Padre Island will do more than improve mobility and provide another critical connection,” Meade said. “It will help unlock economic development on the north side of the Island and create new opportunities for growth throughout Cameron County and the Rio Grande Valley.”

Meade also pointed to the state’s commitment to the project.

“Thanks to Governor Abbott’s leadership and commitment to this project, TxDOT has allocated initial funding in the 2027 UTP and expects to break ground before 2030,” he said.

Documents obtained by RGV TIMES show that the Texas Transportation Commission has already authorized $772,211,148 for the project.

As part of the current phase, TxDOT is leading a new environmental review while working with the Cameron County RMA. The proposed non-toll project would be approximately 17.6 miles long, including a bridge of roughly eight miles across the Laguna Madre.

The proposed SH 104 Second Access would provide a new connection between the mainland and South Padre Island, crossing the Laguna Madre and connecting the mainland near FM 106 with Park Road 100 on the island.

Twenty-five years after the collapse of the Queen Isabella Causeway, which remains the island’s only roadway connection, Meade’s comments represent one of the clearest public timelines yet for a project that has been discussed for decades.

The next major milestones will be the completion of the environmental review, selection of the preferred alternative, final design, right-of-way work and the formal construction schedule.

On this day in 1836, Sam Houston, the victor of San Jacinto, was elected president of the newly founded Republic of Texas. Candidates for the office had included Henry Smith, governor of the provisional government, and Stephen F. Austin. Houston became an active candidate just eleven days before the election. He received 5,119 votes, Smith 743, and Austin 587. Mirabeau B. Lamar, the “keenest blade” at San Jacinto, was elected vice president. Houston received strong support from the army and from those who believed that his election would ensure internal stability, hasten recognition by world powers, and bring about early annexation to the United States. He served two terms as president of the republic and was subsequently a United States senator and governor of the state of Texas. #otd #samhouston #president #republicoftexas #lonestarstate

Had the privilege and honor of capturing former lieutenant governor of Texas Ben Barnes at a celebration of his journey and signing of his book “Get It Done”. What an incredible journey this man has had an evening filled with inspiring insight of it.
