Yesterday, we celebrated our 25th Mineral Talks LIVE! 25 weeks in a row, we welcomed mineral curators, collectors, dealers, artists, reporters, researchers...
And as we won't have a mineral show any time, the adventure will continue a bit longer!
Thanks to all who made it happen!

⚠️We just received some very unfortunate Tucson news... The 2021 “Main Show” in Tucson hosted by the Tucson Gem & Mineral Society has been canceled. This does NOT mean all of 50+ shows in Tucson are canceled. We are waiting additional confirmation on the rest of 2021 Tucson shows but hold out hope that some will still be open. #tucsongemshow #gemshow #gemshowfinder #gemstones #crystals

Quartz var. beta (quartz paramorph after beta)
Warm Springs District, Fergus Co. Montana, USA
Rock Currier Collection No. 2961

A high-temperature (> ~573°C) polymorph of silica with a crystal structure very similar to that of quartz, but with a higher symmetry. Unstable at room temperature, it cannot be quenched from high temperatures. All "beta-quartz" or "quartz-beta" or "high quartz" in collections actually represent paramorphs of quartz after beta-quartz. - Mindat.org

Come join us this Friday, August 7th, as we enjoy hanging out with our viewers to just talk story!!! There's no agenda, no topic and no plans other than to just enjoy each other's company and share mineral stories.

Make sure you bring a mineral that you can share with the group and we'll just go around introducing ourselves and sharing good times - drinks are purely optional!!!

This Happy Hour Friday will be co-moderated by Mr. Peter Megaw and, if you know Peter, you KNOW he's always up for a good story or two!!!

Mineral Talks LIVE - Episode 03 - Peter Megaw
http://go.mineraltalkslive.com/Episode03

In Episode 3 of Mineral Talks LIVE, we head back to Tucson, Arizona to sit down with Peter Megaw - one of the world’s experts on Mexican minerals.

Peter is not only a passionate collector of Mexican minerals, he is also the TGMS Exhibition Chair which means he’s in charge of all the great exhibits we see every year at the Main Show in Tucson. Needless to say, this man has seen A LOT of great minerals!!

In this interview, Peter chats with us a little about his background before he takes us into his private vault and regales us with his jaw-dropping Mexican mineral collection. This LIVE interview originally aired on June 17th, 2020 and it is now posted on BlueCap Productions’ YouTube channel for everyone to enjoy.

Mineral Talks LIVE is a joint-venture effort put on by BlueCap Productions, the Mineralogical & Geological Museum at Harvard University and the Society of Mineral Museum Professionals (SMMP). This series was created as a response to the COVID-19 situation that has been greatly affecting the mineral world by isolating and separating us. Our goal is to bring a new venue where the mineral world can re-connect with each other during these difficult times.

One of the first pieces that grabbed me from across the room at the 2016 NJ Gem Show. Amazing quartz included with a perfect, yet broken, Tourmaline and overgrown by smoky Amethyst. The “missing” fragment of Tourmaline is visible, trapped in the Quartz! 🧐
