Had the best time in Kauai ☀️🌊🩵

Yesterday, I accomplished one of the hardest things I have ever done in my life thus far, which is run a half marathon equaling 13.1 miles.

A couple months ago I was feeling really down on myself with all the health issues I have gone through over the past 3 years. So I decided to go for a run. Mind you never have I ever ran more than a mile in my entire life. While I’m running(jogging/ walking) around the neighborhood, I get a feeling to stop by one of my best friends house even tho she’s been out serving a mission for the past year. I was telling myself “no that’s dumb why would I stop, I’m wheezing so bad and am kind of a mess right now” but for some reason my body ended up at there door step. Not realizing what would happen next. My best friends mom, Cari, opens the door and she says “oh my gosh, McKelle! Lexi is on the phone right now”. (If you are not familiar with LDS missions, you are only allowed to call family once a week which is on PDAY, mind you it is like 8:30 at night). I was literally so excited I hadn’t talked, seen, or heard her voice since she left so that was truly a tender mercy for me. After Lexi had to go, I stayed and talked with Cari for a little bit just about the struggles I’ve been dealing with and how down and frustrated I had been.

She then asks me, so do you normally run? I was like “no I’ve literally never ran more than a mile in my entire life”. 1 because it’s bad for your vertical in volleyball and 2 I thought it was seriously the dumbest thing. Cari then looks at me and says “you should do the Mesa marathon!” My literal first reaction to her was “yeah right that’s a funny joke. Did you not just hear me tell you I can’t even run a mile?!” She’s like “no I heard you and I actually think this might be the best thing for you”. I literally thought she was messing with me but I knew it wasn’t once she started getting so passionate and serious about it. It was no longer a funny joke and my stomach started to feel sick because I knew deep down that maybe it would be the best thing for me. Continued in the comments…
