Last night, Zoe Moon brought Real Black for Me to Tāwhiri Warehouse - a deeply moving tribute to the extraordinary Roberta Flack.

Co-created with @seth.af.boy and performed with her stellar ensemble and a string quartet, Zoe reimagined Flack’s classics and hidden gems (such as "Angelitos Negros", "Feel Like Makin' Love" and "Killing Me Softly"), through lush orchestral and jazz-infused arrangements, weaving Flack’s own incredible voice into the music.

A powerful celebration of influence, identity and legacy, seen through Zoe’s singular artistic lens. As Festival Co-Director Tama Waipara said, he was “still floating from a transcendent moment and experience.”

Letting people in to see a bit more about me, the REAL BLACK FOR ME show & my work.

Being a first release @welljazzfest headliner act alongside local treasures like @ignarukih is quite the full circle moment for my life here in Welly 🌬️
Look mama! I’m in the same lineup as #macygray @rebirthbrassband @benjaminclementine & @joeyalexandermusic 🤯

I’ve poured myself over this “impossible dream” of a show. Last year with the help of the @meowedwardst beloveds, RBFM was born. 13 performers strong, It felt inevitable, and imperative to do it again this year. The Tāwhiri warehouse holds such magic in possibility ✨perrrrfect for this next episode. It is always a privilege to have support for bringing art to audience.

To celebrate the GREAT interpreter of song that is Roberta Flack, aaand celebrate the Black community here alongside such premium international talent, is such a leap forward in a life long mission at the heart of my work.
