One of our favorite quotes from our friend @thanemarcus about golf and life: walk slowly but persistently.

Whether you’re on the course or trying to close a big deal, embracing patience allowing things to unfold naturally is a powerful skill.

Mental toughness sounds a lot better than it feels, yet being mentally tough is one of the most important skills for any leader to possess.

Simple habits like not skipping days when you most want to skip them - whether with workouts, 1-1’s with direct reports, responsiveness in email communications, etc. - it all matters in leadership.

How can you take this idea with you in the week ahead?

Love this prompt as a reminder for striving to be more child-like (not child-ish) in life, each and every day.

P.S. - if you like good quotes and other interesting content-recco’s, I’d love for you to sign up for my monthly newsletter: “The Advance” where I share all the things I’m learning from each month. Would be honored to have you receive it!

This is essential, especially for leadership.

Leadership always starts at the level of self, and if you aren’t able to be honest with yourself, there is always going to be a lack of integrity with others (who often see your true self more clearly than you do).

One of the questions that sparks some of the greatest reflections on this idea is:

What is it like to be on the other side of you?

If we want to lead ourselves well, we need to be able to honestly answer this question before we take on the onus of helping others answer it for themself.

Avoidance and distraction often come from the root of fear.

Courage is the antidote to fear.

Constant refinement and clarity are the fuels for making courage useful and effective.

So the question is, how can you choose to do it afraid today with eyes wide open, fully aware, fully committed, and fully accepting of what comes?

What are you working toward?

What are you working for?

Reminders like these are helpful to realign our efforts in a direction that promotes human flourishing beyond mere wealth creation or power accumulation.

Do you find yourself investing more energy into justifying the way things are, or investing that energy into building the personal resource of courage in order to bring about something different?

My hope is this quote and that question can stick with you today and into the weekend.

I know far too well how easy it is to justify inaction or surrender, and I also know how narrow and confining that container can be.

One commitment I want to hold onto throughout my life is the commitment to ruthlessly say “yes” to what is, while always leaning into what could be, and doing so with eyes wide open, with all my heart, having the courage to keep taking the next right step.

This is a good reminder / kick in the pants for all of us mid-week.

The path of least resistance usually doesn’t lead us where we want to go.

The more we open our eyes the more we see the contradiction within ourself.

This quote helps remind me of the importance of leading with empathy, and looking in the mirror before getting caught up in pointing fingers at others.

Getting excited for @appellopartners first edition of our monthly Leadership Toolkit Sessions, taking place September 5th at 12pm (MT). These are designed to provide a simple tool for continued growth in leading both ourselves and others in an effective way.

Looking forward to joining forces with one of our Associates - Justin Almas - to bring even more depth, experience, and relatability to the content and call.

In essence, these are going to be a lunch-and-learn style webinar that you’ll actually enjoy (and gain something from!).
We’d love to meet you and see your faces with us on the zoom call then!

To register (free), head over to our event page here: https://events.humanitix.com/leadership-toolkit-session-september
