It’s been a week since I got back from Venice and looking back, my last week was kinda emotional

I spent the first two weeks feeling very anxious and overwhelmed with all the free time I had, spent the third week being sick and by the final week I was trying to squish all the experiences I had missed out on 😭 I learned so much about myself and I’m so grateful for the time I spent away and the people I met (especially the people). Our group was so kind, advocated for me so many times, checked up on me, made me dinner when I was sick. I wouldn’t have survived without the trustttt meeee. Love you guys so so much 🥹❣️

I can’t say just how much it meant to me to be able to go away for one month and focus on me and my work. Thank you @londonmetuni & @britisharts

So much more to come out of this trip but for now Arriverdverci Veneziaaa

I am so so so ecstatic and honoured (but insanely upset) to have completed my 2026 Venice Fellowship at the British Pavilion, in partnership with the British Council and Ulster Presents, both of which I cannot thank enough for this incredible opportunity :-)

I was surrounded by the kindest people, both group 5 and m+b studio, whose conversations I will miss so dearly, and who made Lubaina Himid's installation all the more delightful to invigilate for <3 (I am going to be dreaming of Himid's colour palette and Magda Stawarska's soundscape in my sleep)

If you are in Belfast and are not able to attend the Biennale, Predicting History: Testing Translations, will be touring the UK and arrive at The MAC in 2027. This will coincide with a special group show that I will be curating in collaboration with Camille Serisier and Catriona Anderson at Platform Arts, you don't want to miss either!!!

[Pre warning that I will be spamming my story with the overwhelming amount of pavillions I got to see because I could not even attempt to fit them all in one post]

Artist Spotlight — Ahmed Umer
Presenting work as part of ENCLOSURE at Leith Hill Place — a contemporary art exhibition drawing on the history of land, community and protest.

Ahmed Umer is a visual artist and curator from Pakistan, currently pursuing an MA at UCA. His practice explores space, architecture, and urban transformation through installation, often using trompe-l'œil strategies to blur perception and engage viewers as active participants.

🖼 Untitled (The Earth Diggers)
Intaglio and embossing on Somerset paper, dust collected from site

This series of landscape prints appears, at first, calm and familiar — pastoral imagery of fields, tree lines, open horizons. Yet beneath the surface lies a quieter narrative of disruption and control. Created through a reversed intaglio process, the prints contain subtle embossed forms: construction machinery, barriers, warning signs, disturbed ground — visible only through shifts of light and shadow.

As viewers move in front of the work, the surface shifts between visibility and concealment, unsettling the initial impression of an undisturbed landscape. This approach reflects the historical process of enclosure, through which shared land was transformed into private property, leaving lasting yet often overlooked traces in the environment. Inviting viewers to reconsider landscapes not as passive or timeless, but as sites shaped by ongoing forces of intervention, regulation, and change.

ENCLOSURE is on display until 27th September
