🏆🏆🏆 Over Carnival weekend when the Caribbean gathers to celebrate a tradition born from resistance and the reclamation of space I received some beautiful news . @standcleartheclosingdoors is nominated for 4 awards at Conch Shell International Film Fest . 🏆 Best Film 🏆 Best Director 🏆 Best Cinematographer-@t.s.naylor 🏆 Best Lead Performer-@StaceySargeant . This deeply personal New York story shaped by my Caribbean roots could not have been made without my mother . One of my greatest supporters throughout my life her belief in my vision for this film helped make it possible . Her being from Tobago🇹🇹 and a first-time Executive Producer on Stand Clear ‘ the Closing Doors makes sharing this journey with her especially meaningful . To be recognized by @CownchShellIFF a festival celebrating Caribbean voices feels like a beautiful continuation of the love support and belief that brought it to life . Heartfelt thanks to the jurors @lamarrichardson_ Sekiya Dorsett Nambi Kelly Lu Childs @stefonbristol Gillian Isabelle . Our stories make space for us . . . . . . . #CSIFF26 #standcleartheclosingdoors #blackstoriesmatter #westindiandayparade #buhwhatroubleisdis

🌧🌦☀️ This week I had to remind myself of this ⬆️ day which seems like a lifetime ago . This week I had to remind myself of my community those who came together to help me realize my vision + celebrate the manifestation of that vision [before] there were laurels attached to @standcleartheclosingdoors . THANK YOU Adepero Amanda Amy Anthony Arthur Ayesha Becky Beverly Carlos Cedric Claudia Clay Cyreema Daniel DeeDee Duane Eric Esther Gary Grace Heather Irwin Jade JaQwan Jennifer Jeremy JJ Jonathan Kyle Kymberli Lago Liz Lupita Marc H Marc J-G Moses Natacha Nicole Nikiya Palmer Pascale Rashid Rebeca René Rich Rob Roy Sharina Shirel Sierra Stephen Susan Tamika Tim M Tim N Verona Vincho Vivien Yaegel Zahiyya . This industry (exhale + strike that) the [politics] of this industry (well, the people make the politics, so...) the [people] in this industry can sometimes leave you feeling so undervalued + unappreciated like everything you’ve done given created means nothing . The sacrifices we make to be here to remain relevant the things we essentially [choose] to miss out on personally (sigh) 🤦🏾‍♀️🥹 #iykyk . As I ponder on whether or not the cost of doing business is worth it I realize the community that helped me create this film wouldn’t have been there for me to call if I didn’t partake in this business . so here [still] I AM . 📸: @artphotofilms . . . . . . . #iam #grateful #clear #ittakesavillage #blackwomanmagic #standcleartheclosingdoors
