As the days get a little longer and the warmth starts to creep back in, it’s hard not to start thinking about getting outside and painting.

We’re almost there and @thatch.and.thread’s beautiful cottage, painted in Emperor Masonry Paint in ‘Mushroom’ has us seriously inspired 🌿

“We wanted to do the best we could for the long term durability of the cottage.”

Meet Susie who this year took on the job of painting the outside of her 17th century thatched cottage in Hertfordshire 🏡

In this edition of Emperor Stories, she shares how she tackled long-standing damp issues, restored her cottages exterior and brought protection back to a home that’s been standing for centuries, all with the help of the full family ❤️

Head to the website to read the full story 📖

It’s the first Sunday in Advent, the official start of the countdown to Christmas.
I rarely decorate the cottage before Advent, preferring to decorate a little each day, bringing old and much-loved decorations down from the attic, as well as winter foliage from the garden.
Today I’ve put up my advent calendars, one from and the other from @angelaharding11 and @kettleoffishdesigns
I’ve also got three gorgeous edible food and drink Advent calendars from @tiptreeofficial @bonnemaman_uk and @drinksbythedram
Today’s Advent Sunday Tea Tray was taken at the cottage kitchen occasional table, newly dressed in a delightful winter tablecloth.
The china is Green Asiatic Pheasants, Green Regal Peacock and Green Prunus from
And our tea tray today comprises:
* Ham wholemeal bread rolls with salted butter & mustard
* Cheddar cheese
* Homemade pickled beetroot
* Crisps
* Homemade mince pies
* Homemade “Taster” Christmas cake
* Tangerines
* Pot of Ringtons tea
Enjoyed by the light of the first Advent candle which I lit before we sat down.
Have a WONDERFUL Advent Sunday wherever you are, Karen

Good evening everyone, and happy new week!

Amy @heapscottage here today.

Susie is fairly new to the cottage world of insta and is a new find for me, but wow! What a cottage! And what a setting 😍

Swipe to the end to see a lovely little watercolour of this fab cottage!

I just love a thatched cottage, don’t you?
