Today I visited a gorgeous place on Lord Street Southport. Wine and Words. The pics speak for themselves-stylish and immaculate. Coffee not wine for me as it was only 10:30am. 😀 Really friendly staff and a chilled, welcoming atmosphere. I opted to sit outside and read my book with a cappuccino and do a bit of people watching in the sunshine😎Well worth a visit if you’re in Southport. I’ll be back soon hopefully with @fussyfoodieliv

La Velvetta doesn’t do soft openings. 🥂✨

This felt like a restaurant that already knew exactly who it wanted to be. What stayed with me wasn’t one dish — it was the consistency. The same care in the bone-marrow butter on the salmon showed up again in a single quenelle of palate-cleansing sorbet nobody was required to serve.

The salmon skin alone is worth the trip — genuinely crisp, not just crisped-looking. Both desserts arrived plated for a photograph, which, fortunately, they were.

Brass, brick, amber glass. Staff who were warm without hovering. A wine list that already reads like it belongs to an established name.

La Velvetta isn’t just launch-ready. It’s the new benchmark for Doncaster’s dining scene. 🍽️

My purchases at Waterstones Piccadilly during my mini theatre break with @fussyfoodieliv We spent ages trying to choose and after much deliberation we both came away with If We Were Villains by M L Rio.
Loved this store and the staff were lovely.
Have you read this? Have you been to this branch of Waterstones?
