![⊹₊When You Walk On Broadway/The Broadway Beat ₊⊹
The last in my series of New York posts: in honor of it being one year (and a bit) since I went to New York, I thought I'd share a song I wrote in April inspired by it, and also inspired by the other, less well-known Broadway in Orangeville, Ontario. I've met some pretty amazing people on both Broadways.
I've included footage of places I enjoyed in New York, such as the High Line, Central Park, the Brooklyn Promenade, Harlem (where I especially enjoyed staying), and clips from Broadway in Orangeville, such as the bar The Broadway Beat after which the song is named.
I added all the places that inspired me, and then realized I'd hardly included any footage of THE Broadway, so there are some pictures of Times Square buried in there, and the song opens with some clips I took when I was on Broadway myself last year.
Some of these are videos I took, some were sent to me by a good friend in Harlem, and some, for places I forgot to take videos/the videos didn't capture the feeling of being there, are courtesy of YouTube.
LYRICS
When you walk on Broadway,
Skip or jog down Broadway,
I assure you, there's a fascinating crowd
In the bars adorning Broadway
And the theatres lining Broadway,
Or anywhere that people sing out loud
On the days you walk on Broadway,
Jog or dance down Broadway,
Or better yet, reserve yourself a seat
You will find the folks from Broadway
Different than the folks who're not from Broadway
And you'll be too, once you feel that Broadway beat
[break]
Oh, the times you walk on Broadway,
If you've ever been to Broadway,
May count among the best years of your life
I won't ever forget Broadway
And the feelings felt on Broadway
And the songs and steps and strategies
I saw, and learned from Broadway
Where culture, art and passion grown and thrive
I've been forever touched
And I've grown so much
All because I leaned into that Broadway beat
