But where do you find it? ⬇️

I’m not going to say I’m an art snob, because that would be mis-characterizing my relationship with art. When I was younger I used to by art at Kirklands because I liked the selections, but they’re mass reproductions. If that’s where you art, that’s totally fine… but if you could have the real thing for less money: wouldn’t you want to do that?
.
For me art is not to display wealth or to show what good taste I have: art should speak to your soul and elicit an emotional response when you walk by.
.
Antique art is more than just the picture. It’s the patina. It’s the crackled paint. It’s the chips and dings on the frame.
.
I have a lot of art at my house and not nearly enough wall space.
.
Raymond is one of my favorites and he has his own wall and light. He is an original oil painting that is probably a late nineteenth century piece. There is so much depth in his eyes. I paid $17 for him at an auction and I don’t know how much he is really worth. I just know that I love him and he moves me.
.
Sometimes you can find decent pieces on FM marketplace, usually adult children cleaning out their parents place after they pass and they’re in a hurry.
.
My favorite auction site is Hibid… for local auctions.
.
I buy new art also, and I’ve tagged a few of my favorites artists here.
.

Like if we had royalty-it’s her.

And it’s SO tasteful.

But that doesn’t mean it’s not your thing.

Or my thing.
.
What if it turns out that: that’s just what “they” are selling, is faux farmhouse stuff.
.
But if you look hard, you might discover it’s what THEY want to sell you… until they want to sell you something else next year.
.
And if my thing also happens to actually be your thing… you’ll never have to chase a trend again. You can become a collector instead of a buyer ❤️
.
And you’ll only need milk and body wash from Target. You wouldn’t even have to SEE the decor section 🤷‍♀️

Don’t you think life would be more fun if you had a formal Sunday dinner with your family?
.
It may seem silly.
.
Maybe it is.
.
But here’s the anatomy of a family dinner:
.
1) Family. Make it a thing you do every Sunday. Remind everyone on Friday. Invite close friends. (Burn your “gather” sign).
.
2) Make a pretty table: our table basics are linked in stories to our Amazon store lists (all in one place!). But, you know what? Don’t buy stuff. Use your mom or your grandma’s pretty China they gave you. Use vintage/thrifted cloth napkins. Use mismatched silverware and antique glasses.
.
3) Make a yummy dinner. Have a set time for it.
.
4) Get dressed for dinner. Like Downton Abbey style. Make your boys put on a shirt. (If you dress nice a few times you’ll bully people into dressing nicer without them even realizing it) 😂. Put on makeup. Yeah, mascara. The whole thing.
.
5) Make a FREE centerpiece with whatever seasonal stems you can find outside. Raid the neighbors garden. Watch for ring doorbells.
.
6) Get out your grandmother’s candlesticks and light the candles.
.
7) Dim the lights.
.
8) Pray before dinner. Thank God how Blessed you are to have everyone at the table and pray for those that are too far to be there.
.
9) Enjoy each other. If anyone takes out a cell phone drop it into the ice water pitcher and keep talking like nothing happened.
.
Cost… FREE.

Because that would mean turning the idea machine off in my head and it’s simply NOT POSSIBLE 🤷‍♀️

It’s fair to say that maybe we’ll be approaching the finish line in the next six months for the existing set of plans for the kitchen.
.
It would be so wonderful to have it done for Thanksgiving but that’s probably an unrealistic target 😭.

Fancy some inspiration? It's turned chilly and in our house boots are on, hats are ready and we're always on the hunt for a missing glove!
.
Have a cuppa and a scroll through these fabulous boot rooms (mud rooms in the USA). I'm always keen to point out that not everyone has the luxury of space for a dedicated boot room, but a small area can be created for practical boot/shoe storage and all the extra outdoors kit your household might need!
.
